Bad throw out bearing cause problems
I have always had 1 and 2nd gear problems. 1st when I come to a stop and 2nd when shifting from 1st to 2nd. Always thought the syncros were worn. It shifts but you have to count 2 Mississippi's. After removing the transmission I found the through out bearing hard to rotate. Could this be the problem Ive had. Its a 86 with 115k.

It's one problem.....opening up the trans to check, is relatively cheap considering what you have to do later, if you're are wrong.

+1 check the trans.
If your going to replace the T/O bearing and Tube & Seal might as well change the fork and pilot bearing as well. How is the condition of the coupler? Ivangene's coupler is amazing

Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping someone would say that the throw out bearing would in fact cause the same problem. Lol...Coupling new, purchased pilot bearing...why the fork

If the fork is fatigued/bent/broken it could cause the clutch from not releasing all the way and may cause the rough into gear/s issue.

Wear items like to be replaced before they break.

I have a mechanic friend who is retired, but has spent most of his life rebuilding Porsches. He would be a pefect guy to rebuild only what is necessary in your transmission, saving you tons of money.
You need to find a guy like that in your area, and take your transmission to him. |

I have a guy in Pensacola that has a great reputation. Also Atalanta although he wanted $850.00 in labor alone and 5 hours away. They gave me an estimate of 4k.
