outer rear CV boot follow up question

From the experience at the shop, I gather that to actually replace only the boot (vs. the entire shaft), the (1) half shaft has to still come out, and (2) wheel side has to be removed, including the bearing retainer etc., and the (3) outer retaining clip.

Nice link Early S Man. Much more clear.........looks exactly like the procedure Monroe had to use to replace that boot. And yes, getting those ball bearings back in was tricky...as they nor I had no Bentley-VW manual. Trial and error got them back together in the "cage" about the second or third time. Excellent on the spot up-close education for myself though. Those diagrams are very accurate to my outer rear joint. Thanks
