Ever seen this fuchs ?

Hello,
The part number on this fuchs is 901 361 012 04. and I have seen this number listed in many books and threads, so this should be a normal 5.5/16? (TYPO 5.5/15)
I picked it up today for cleaning and saw the number 6/15 embossed on it.
Is there a mistake on this fuchs, the book or just me.
Thanks
Burint

Burint,

According to this site, your fuch number indicates a 5.5X15 fuch with a 42mm ET.
Did you typo the 5.5X16? I would think the 5.5 might translate into a 6 on the wheel (?). Bottom line, I'd trust the stamping on the wheel.

edit: One possibility from the info on the site. I believe the "J" indicates a tubless rim. If so, that would put your rim in the early 70's era and (maybe) that's also when 5.5 wheels became 6. It does look like you have the longer spokes, as mentioned on the site.

According to the data I looked at, the part number you give, and which appears on the wheel, is correct for a 15" wheel.... though the data says 5.5" width. Your wheel shows 6". Reason may be what LJ said.

Thanks for reply, yes 5.5/16 is typo on my post. it should be 5.5/15
So, would you say this is also a deep 6?
I also have another pair of 901 361 012 06, deep 6.
They look identical to the 901 361 012 04.

They do look like a deep six in that there is quite a bit of rim showing. If they are identical to the ones you have then maybe that explains it--a misstamping (?) of the part number where the 04 should be 06. Maybe do careful measurements of the two rims (width of rim, width of lip between spoke and edge of rim, offset) and let us know. I'd guess if there is any difference, it would be a 5.5 vs a 6 inch rim which would be obvious as soon as you put them side by side.

Notice the ink stamped "6" on top of the 4 at the end of the part number as if to make the number 901.361.012.06
I'm sure this is what they would do when they wanted to make a wheel and didn't have the right dies ready. Why let a silly number stop you?

I had a .04 wheel that was a deep 6 and yours looks like a 6 with the lip as deep as it is. 5.5's are a little shallower.

Weidman thought these wheels were inventory slated for 5.5 but late production made them into 6's.

fuchs wheel

I had a set of deep 6" wheels on a 69S, they were all dated 6 68 like this wheel. Why not just measure between the bead flanges, on the inside and thats what it is period.
