Noise when depressing clutch

Hi:

Here is the problem. Engine recently rebuilt by me. Sounds great. Took it for a short ride and notice that when I depress the clutch pedal there is a ticking sound that is annoying. It goes away when the clutch is released. The clutch engages and works OK, new pilot bearing. And by the way the engine was smoking from the fan belt area (crankshaft area). No oil leak, I will check the belt tension tomorrow.

Any thoughts will be appreciated,

Francisco Soto

what year and what trans. off the top of my head when you depress the clutch pedal you are either pulling or pushing your throw out bearing, did you replace the throw out bearing?

Does it make the noise when the car is stationary, moving or both?

Hi everyone:
Car is a 1985 carrera with 915 tranny. Today I started the car and went for a very short ride. No noise (ticking) in the tranny. About the smoke in engine compartment found the crank pulley with a wobble (only the A/C part). Probably the smoke was from the belt. Need to check that. The fan part of the pulley is running true. Have to go for a longer ride (actually no permit to drive until april) to check for the smoke and the ticking. Probably is when the car is getting to temperature.

Thanks for your replys and keep them coming,

Francisco Soto.
