16" Fuchs on early car - repaint style opinions needed

Well, the question isn't so much how - more an opinion on what looks good...

I have stolen this picture of Chris Campbell's beautiful 911E. The first picture is the car with Chris' 16x6" wheels refinished as the factory refinished the 16" wheels, but with unpainted spokes, like an early car. This leaves an unpainted flat portion between the rim and the spokes.

The second is my Photoshopped version, with the paint extending to the bottom of the rim, as the factory did on the early "deep" Fuchs wheels. The area between the rim and spokes is "painted", courtesy of Photoshop.

So what looks better? And which would be better in real life? I want to keep my car looking "old". It currently looks like this, with 15x6" Fuchs. I have to change to get a decent performance tyre on there (205/50R16):

thanks,

Cam

Bill - I used the yellow stuff in a can from Repco - it is made by CRC. It works fine on the c1982 SC Fuchs I have - it really strips them well.

I won't be painting for a while, but like to plan ahead...

Thanks Cam, I'll try that next. I've been wondering if my Turgostrip is off. I bought half a container from a car painting place and I wonder if some of the DCM and other good bits have evaporated off as the stuff is fairly gluggy.

Cam, I like the top shot of Chris's car better. But I think I am going to go with a treatment like the shot below when I do mine. It looks great on the 15" x 7" Fuchs (this is of a 8" but the 7" on the front were the same.)

I prefer the wheel treatment in the top picture.

Cam.....Thanks for posting that.
I had considered putting 7x15 on the rear of my car, but didn't want them to look different than the 6's on the front. (and the "911R" are out of my league). Painting them out looks good.

I like the lower photo better. I like the shots of Chris's car with the original 15" wheels better too. (although that doesn't seem to be the popular opinion)

I never really liked that "extra" band of chrome on the 6x16's. It makes them look too "flat". I like it on the 7x16 and 8&9x16's though.

If you want an opinion, and everyone has one, I really like the look of the paint treatment on the wheels on your car. I would go with the same style with the 16's. It just does something more with the black car.

With the 16s, you do get a painted circle (about a half an inch wide) that comes between the unpainted spokes and the unpainted rim.

Here's one that's polished. Not as pretty as Chris's.

Thanks for more opinions

What I think is as Rustbucket puts it - early wheels look best and it looks "odd" with the silver band as in Chris' picture (no offence Chris ). I agree the 7" and bigger 16" wheels look good with the paint treatment as in Jack's photo.

The problem is that the 6" wheels aren't dished. As a result, the flat band becomes much more noticeable. The pic below shows my wheels - one unstripped, one stripped. You can see the factory painting was only to the edge of the spokes.

I think I will try painting the flat part black too, and see what happens. I can then post pictures for general derision or otherwise.

By the way, you could all stop me having this difficult decision making process by chipping in a few bucks each and buying me some 911R wheels for the back - then I'll stick with 15"

Cam,
I sent a set of 16x7's to W.E. out in Cali and had the lip and spoke anodized and the background painted black to look "vintage" i will post pics when they come next week.
