Transmission leak G50
I have identified a leak on my 88 G50 transmission where the shift rod goes in - have sourced the new shift rod seal from our host but just wondering if the change out is straightforward and can be done under the car with transmission still in place.
I have a burning smell (clutch) but just replaced the clutch a year ago and it is not slipping. I am taking a guess that somehow the leak from the tranny is finding it's way back to the flywheel and causing the burning smell. Any one changed out that seal and can offer some advice? Thanks, Alan |

That seal is easy to change out due to the external flange that is on it. You drive it out with a hammer and your choice of driving rod- flat blade screwdriver, punch, whatever.
However the shift rod seal should not affect clutch performance. You'd find gear oil in the tunnel inside the car with a shift rod seal leak. A burning clutch smell is improper clutch engagement or also could be the crankshaft seal leaking and contaminating the clutch. Do you get a noticeable amount of clutch slippage?
