introduction

Hello everyone, I am fairly new to the technical side of 911's but have been around them all of my life. I am now the owner of my Grandfather's 1974 911 he bought brand new in Stuttgart West Germany while stationed in Geneva Switzerland working for the FCC/Federal Government. (He has since passed on) It was flown over Air Cargo on Lufthansa after his assigment was over. It is bone stock (to my knowledge) and has no options to speak of really. No radio, no A/C, no sunroof, and steel wheels. Overall it is in fine shape but not very decked out. It does have black leather interior (in perfect condition), Bosch fuel injection and a sticker in the window that says "25 Years of Driving Excellence".

I have a few questions that I hope you all might be able to help me with.

1) What is the Factory recommended tire size for my steelies, and what brand/size would you recommend?

2) What size/vintage Fuchs will fit clearance-wise (brakes, fenders) it if I was able to find some for sale? Would there be any advantage to changing the steelies to Fuchs?

3) Should I look into a front mounted oil cooler and if so, which brand/model(s) will work well for my 911?

I will put up some photos as soon as I can get to it.

Thank you for your help and interest.

Ross

Welcome, Ross!

Of course we're looking forward to seeing picutres of your new possession/obsession -- more is better ;-)

Lots of knowledgeable Pelicans in CO, too.

Depending on condition/rarity of your car (many others will chime in and pictures/option codes/repair history will help in this regard) and your intention -- daily driver? preservation/restoration? etc. will help provide some context for any advice that might come your way, especially regarding upgrades, modification, and so on.

Glad to have you aboard.

Ross,
Welcome to the Pelican Forum. A picture of the car is always a great introduction. We love pictures.
There are so many great people, and tons information on this site you can find the answer to just about anything. The search feature is a great way to read how others have done things, and explore old posts that will give you information you didn't think you needed to know.
Also, the Used Parts forum is a great way to buy and sell things at usually reasonable prices.
On to the questions, I think the front cooler is a very good thing to add. I bought a used stock setup, but I'm sure you will get good advice on the aftermarket ones from others.
I love the look of Fuch's, so I would say look into a set in the Used Parts forum.
I would also say since you are in Colorado, if at altitude I would make sure the mixture was adjusted correctly.
