What is wider than stock wheel size?

I'm getting ready to join my first autocross and in the process of tallying up the point to see if my car would need to be classified one class higher, I run into this:

Quote:
Wider than stock wheel size - any wheel 1"-2" +5
So what exactly was the stock size? The manual list 15 inch and 16 inch as well as 8J x 15 but not an 8J x 16. I have an 86 Coupe with 16 inch 7&8's. Would that be considered stock? Could they be purchased directly as an option or would that be considered a 1" upgrade, I'm thinking that's going to be the case.

Base wheel sizes were 15x6/7 Phone Dials in 1986. Optional wheels were 15x7/8 Fuchs and 16x6/7 Fuchs. Look at any build sheet for the 911 of that era and the Fuchs were an added-cost option. Both base wheels and optional wheels = stock because they were all offered as factory-equipped wheels for the '86 911. So you should not be penalized +5 pts. Doesn't matter if it's 15 in. or 16 in. The width is all that matters.

No one of any knowledge should try to penalize you for 16 in. wheels because that's not necessarily an advantage. The heavier 16 in. wheels and tires can actually be a disadvantage. However the lower profile of the 16 in. tires, when comparing tires of same rolling diameter, can often provide better handling. Lots of factors at play here like tire construction, actual section width, tread depth, etc., when comparing tires of different rim diameter, stated tread width & overall diameter.

The 16x8 rear became standard issue on the 911 in 1989
