Can I fit 16X7's Fuchs under my unmolested 1974 911?

I didn't want to hijack the other thread regarding 15x7 fuchs on an unmolested 74 911 so I decided to start my own thread. I am new to the forum.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/657852-introduction.html

I tried the search feature but didn't find anything specific about my question so here goes:
Will 16x6's and 16x7's Fuchs fit under my unmolested 1974 base model 911 without modification? I have no flares or wide body. Would getting a certain tire size make any difference?

I currently have steel wheels (15X6), am in need of new tires and want to upgrade to Fuchs but want to make %100 sure that they will fit before I purchase them. I appreciate any input and information you all can provide for me.

Thanks for your help!

Ross

p.s. My 911 is currently in storage in NM and I am in CO. I will get and upload photos as soon as I can.

I've got the standard 6x15 Fuchs on my 74 and 205/60 tires rub on the left wheel well on bumps, (stock, not rolled fender lips).

On the right side, i installed the factory thermostat and brass lines for the front cooler and have about 1/2 inch clearance from the inside of the tire to the oil lines, so I don't think you can play with the offset much - Maybe.

Tire section will also need to be considered.

I dropped a size to 195/50 Dunlop Direzzionales and am happy with that.

God luck,
chris

First, why do you want to run staggered wheels, but yes both will fit just fine, but tires play a part as well, what size were you thinking?

The fronts will be fine. In the rear, you should be able to fit 7x16s with 205/55-16s tires. The "standard" 225/50-16s that are typically on the 7s in the rear are going to be a tight fit. I've seen it done, but it required "rally" ride height.

As Chris and Mike indicate, tire size/brand and ride height will make a difference, as will alignment (particularly camber).

Thank you for the replies!
I need to purchase new tires and I was curious about whether Fuchs would fit at all. I like the Fuchs. I have been told via PM that if I run 205/55/16's all the way around, I will be just fine with 16x6/7. He sent me a photo and everything looks good fitment-wise as well as overall.

I haven't quite made up my mind about which tire brand just yet. Does anyone have any brands/model to "absolutely stay away from" or brands/model that they are very happy with?

My 911 is a tourer and part time daily driver weather permitting.

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it.

I justdid this to my 69. 215/55/16 on the rears and 205/55/16 on the fronts. Fit fine. You can use these links to size different combinations.

I have 16 x 7 on the rear of my 73.5.....Right rear will rub on a bump with a passenger on board. Ok if by myself.

Just out of curiosity (don't mean to hijack the thread either) but would it even be possible to do 16x7's in the front of a '74?
Thanks,
Panos

Yes. The front fenders are basically the same from '69-'89 and many people are running 7s and 9s on later cars. I have 8x16s in the front of my '76 with 245/45-16s. They fit fine.

8s will fit in the front with the right offset. I think there are people who have also fit 8s in the rear (again with a custom offset), but generally Porsche factory 8s will not fit on a narrow body.
