Ok, so another month passes and still not much more to talk-about. Again, too many projects going on and not enough time.
I will admit, the interior has been cleaning up quite nicely.. (pics of that later) and Ol' Herb surprised me and caught the "upgrade bug" quite early.. So we ended up ordering a few needed parts and scrounged around and turn up a few wanted parts as well. Picked-up a bunch of parts needed including: - having new fuel lines made-up from tunnel bulkhead to engine bay - set of factory early heat exchangers and had them Jet-Hot coated - turbo lower valve covers and had those and the uppers powder coated - front brake caliper rebuild kit, pads & SS brake lines for all 4 - all the normal gaskets, seals, and oil lines usually found leaking on these cars - knee pads to get rid of that Ugly dealer installed a/c - Thanks sundevil - dropped the rear seat-bottoms off for re-padding And the bunch of parts wanted: - Momo Protipo wheel - Rennline dead pedal - new manual antenna to replace the dead pwr unit - Set of 22 mm front & 26mm rear torsion bars - set of H4 headlights & paintable rings - a ducktail off a friends race car - Carrera front valence.. like the cleaner look of the recessed fogs (need a nice set of Carrera foglights if someone has them) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1337012159.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1337012316.jpg |
The trunk looks nicer than mine :-) PO had a rats nest around the fusebox...

Nice to meet you, 1978 SC targa oak green on cork with tartan inserts
I parked my 1980 SC in front of Herb's house entirely by coincidence. I went to go take photographs of a school construction site (something I do daily) and of course, as I always do, left my windows open. When I got back to the car, Herb was out on the front steps of his house and called me over. So, we met. And he showed me the car. And he started it. And he took me to the basement and showed me the seats. Wow. This is a GOOD one. I had no idea a fellow Pelican lived just a few blocks away, and I come to learn that his friend, another Pelican (is that you, onboost?), lives a few blocks further. Small world. I too will be following this thread, both online and in person.
Note my username. I joined Pelican back in 2005 (2006 maybe?) when I owned a 1977 930 with, you guessed it, plaidseats. Best car ever, so sad I sold it. But I love the SC. It's a better car for me. Michael W. - Washington DChttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1339705769.jpg |

Michael, That’s a pretty cool story. Herb called me later in the day and told me about this chance meeting. Said he discovered the car parked in front of his house and thought that maybe I had picked-up another one and dropped by to show him. His car has turned out to be a Good one as you say, it has been cleaning up very nicely… we’ve both just been a little too busy lately to “get-er done.” Your car is looking pretty good as well and I think I may have seen it before.. either at a local event or somewhere in town. I had no idea that it was located just a few blocks away.. There are at least two more Pelicans nearby as well. We’ll have to meet-up for some beers & car talk sometime soon. SmileWavy Quote:
Crusty73, A fairly new Pelican? Across the line in MD? Silver Spring? Good to hear from some folks nearby and with older 911s. Most in the city have newer (996/997) which I can’t really relate to.. they’re cool, decent drivers but they just don’t do it for me. Love the old stuff. I don’t think I’ve seen another Oak Green SC in the area for some time… an yes, it is one of those colors that grows on you over time. You guys need to shoot me a PM with your email addresses. This area has a pretty active car culture and there is usually something going on between the two PCA chapters and the various splinter groups.. cars & coffee, shows, and tours/drives.
