So He Get's it! Another one Saved.

So, I've been bang'n around with these "funny lookin little German cars" for a number of years, more than I like to admit, and some of my friends, relatives, and/or girlfriends get it, and some don't.

One friend in particular who is actually a car guy said he got it.. but I really couldn't tell because he just wouldn't join us here on the dark side. He had a 914 way back in 86 or 87, and after that it was just one BMW after another. So all of a sudden he's lurking on Pelican for a couple of years, asking questions, and commenting on more things 911. He then he asks one day if I want to sell him my Long-Hood? Hell, I couldn't believe he actually used the term.. but my response to him was "gimme some dat hooch you've been drinking!"

So I get him out to a few runs, a couple of Cars & Coffee events, and he's jones'n real bad now. Tells me he's selling his little babe-snatching BMW conv and buying a Jeep Cherokee! I'm like what? Oh well.. you just don't get it! So he's sending me ads, from Pelican, Craig's Sleazebay, etc.. asking what do you think.. then calls up one day and says, I've been lookin at all the barn finds, the newer 911's, the unaffordable older 911's and I think I want an SC... whatta ya got?

With a little digg'n around and a tip from budge96 we find tidy little 78 SC Targa (oak green/cork) that's been off the road, but garage kept, for the last 5 years when the owner got a 996. Funny part is, the car was roughly ten minutes away! It's now with its new owner and the clean-up and metamorphosis is about to begin.
It'll probably be slow process as my bud is still pucker'n about paying money for a car that doesn't run, in addition to the needs/to-do list that I've already given him!

Here are a few before shots to begin with.. either myself or the new owner will update it from time to time. The goal is nothing exotic, just a nice clean fun driver with a few tricks here and there.

After a quick wash..

In your second and third to last photos we see the black box that I believe is the radio telephone unit. My car came with a very similar, finned and self-contained transceiver (I guess), which gave the car a real aura of a certain age. No phone though.

I took it out of the car and still have it. A very heavy device.

The car looks to be in great shape.

That will be awesome when you finish, and I love the color. Just wash your hands after you touch that steering wheel LOL.

My interior had the same mold when I let it sit outside too long. A little saddle soap and your leather will look great. Mine came out like new.

Be sure to kill all of the mold before you (he) spend too much time in the driver's seat. I had mine turn into a mold experiement thanks to a leaky window seal. I found this mold kill spray at Home Depot or Lowes that has worked wonders w/ no ill effect to whatever it was sprayed on. I'll try to find the bottle tonight and post up the name.

Keep the lampshades. They add a nice touch to the Targa! I love your description, "nothing exotic, just a nice clean fun driver with a few tricks here and there." Sounds like my track too. Enjoy!

Yes, and that black box and the associated wiring were gone before the end of the day!

Hey Luke, I thought it was a pretty good grab as well and I'm kind fond of 78's & 79's.

Ha! as they say.. ran when parked! Seems to have had the usual leaks etc.. Will have it up on stands by the weekend making assessments to add to the ol' boy's pucker factor!

Darn-it Bruce, don't start that! Maybe we're lucky on this one.. after all it was garaged all that time.. I sure we'll have some more fun with gummy fuel injection.

Thanks for all the kind comments, the new owner is just blown away by all the support.
