1973 2.4 T MFI restore and engine removed for top-end rebuild

Hello everybody, last month i decided to restore all the the look of my 1973 911 T with 100.000 miles so far, with matching numbers.

The main work is on paint (restoring to original red), seats, and complete interior.

As the car is sitting on the paintshop i decided to take a look at the engine and removed it from the car last week.

I already have a new dansk muffler waiting to replace the ugly one that it's installed, and i am planning to polish the staintles steel heat exchangers.

When i removed the heat exchanger i found one problem, the cyl #5 was leaking oil through the exhaust valve, and i decided to make a complete top end rebuild.

What do you think about top end rebuild??, should i change all the valves, guides and seats, or just check them and make sure they are in good shape and still working? Also i am planning to replace head gasket because of the oil leak i have on the left side under the cylinders and thus check all the pistons and cylinders.

The crankcase looks very good so i don't want to open it.

I accept ideas to clean the cylinders and crankcase.

And here the pics, which talk for themselves.

Thanks!!

Ariel

I recently replaced the 2.4 in my 73.5 with a 3.2.....On that engine, the big question is really about oil pressure? My engine had great compression and ran very well for 122,000 miles. However, oil pressure was getting low, especially when hot and when idling....

No use doing the job 1/2 way....There are "spec's" for any engine. That includes rings, valves, guides, P&C's, bearings, etc...If anything is not up to parr, replace it - I say.....

Of course bob, i am going to check all the spec's for the engine as soon as the wayne engine rebuild arrives at home.

But i don't want to open the crankase right now, as i said it's in good shape and not leaking oil.
