Newly Adopted 87 Cabriolet

Here she is, my first 911. At 98k miles, she pulls strong, shifts smooth, doesn't rattle, and looks great at 10 feet, maybe even 5 feet. I'm learning to embrace the burgundy interior, but I'm thinking charcoal or grey carpet might make for a nice two-tone. Tomorrow begins the back-to-front sweep: New belts, brake hoses, e-brake shoes, check all bushings and fluids, fix and replace leaky things, etc., and start running cans of Techron through to undo the effects of the PO letting it sit for 18 months. First challenge: NYS emissions inspection... I relied on this great forum for what to look for in my first P-Car, I'll be relying on it more for how to fix what I find that needs fixing... Today's delivery was highlighted by my crawling under the flatbed to show the driver how to manually disengage the PTO when the control cable wore through it's outer sheath. I hope that's a good omen!

Pretty. They are too much fun for sure. Got mine a year a ago and I love it. I wasn't looking for a 911, but fell into one too good to pass up and I haven't *****ed since. Congrats.

Congrats, and Welcome!

Take care using too much Techron, it can eat up the rubber/plastic components in the fuel system. Like it is said too much of a good thing is bad....

Just get her to 194 degrees F and then give her an Italian Tune Up to blow out all the carbon residue.

Jim

very nice, welcome to the Cabby Club. Personally, I like the burgundy interior. The burgundy tops look great with that color combo.

Congratulations, I picked up my '86 Carrera Cabriolet last month. It's also Grand Prix white with the burgundy interior (look in my garage). I drove mine from Michigan to Virginia and had a blast (even though the top is pretty noisy at highway speeds). Enjoy the car.

+1 on the Techron over-enrichment. Techron strips the buildup, but that ends up in your oil, the expectation being that you will drain it. Best to perform a couple of Techron runs (pour into tank, then fill tank, go for nice long drive) then drop the oil and replace it, with oil filter, and possibly remove the sump pan to check/clean the pickup screen therein.

Change the gas filter - absolutely.

I think the burgandy interior is beautiful. You might want to keep those carpets around for a bit.
