Oil drips
I'm looking for ideas/products to catch the oil drips from my engine. It's my daily driver e39 540 BMW. Leaks a fair amount and develops a pretty good puddle in the garage after several weeks. It's getting worse. Not really concerned about it other than the occasional cleanup it requires.
TIA |

A sheet of cardboard works well and is by far the cheapest solution if the leak is minimal. I have a 31 Ford Model A, that leaks all sorts of fluids, It is always parked on top of cardboard which works well to absorb every thing and only needs to be changed every month or so.
Regards Dave

Thanks for the replies
I've been doing the cardboard thing, but wondered if anyone had been more creative, which is not my strong suit.

Some guys put down the pads used in house-training pets.

First off, my car drips no oil! But, if it did, it would drip it onto a large plastic tray, upturned edges, of about 2.5 x 4 feet that originally was the pull out tray for a dog kennel. I place newspaper in it, and simply pull the newspaper if it gets soiled.

Perfect! I have the kind of tray you're talking about from an old dog kennel. Mine's a little smaller but that works even better. I knew I kept that thing around for a reason. Eventually every packrat finds one thing he's kept for years to be useful! And...Done Thanks! Last edited by RD911T; 02-20-2012 at 11:02 AM.. |

I use a drip pan from a car parts store an cat litter for my 82 Landcruiser. Works fine for me and can be disposed off easily in a plastic bag.

My Uncle works in the carpet industry, so I always get scraps. It's heavy enough to not blow around, and absorbs quite a lot.
