Guys, check out my scenic drive in the 3.2

Guys, please forgive me...I know this is way off topic, but the off topic forum looked dead. Feel free to move this if you need to - I won't be offended

I took my 85 Carrera on a scenic drive in the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix and mounted my video camera in the driver's position. The first clip is a bit rough, just because the road is bumpy - the second one is on the smoother half. For those of you in the Mid-west who's cars are hibernating for the long winter, I thought you might enjoy the engine sounds.

Respectfully,
Mark

Here's the first half - up to Tortilla Flats: Porsche Carrera 3.2 Scenic Mountain Drive - YouTube

Here's the second half. I actually got pulled over for speeding at one point:

Porsche Carrera 3.2 - Mountain Roads Part II - YouTube

Enjoy! (and I hope I'm not in trouble for posting these clips in the Tech forum!)

Thanks Yah...the mount. Well, I rigged something up from a flexible window camera mount (suction cup with a gooseneck) that I got from Best Buy, then I tie-wrapped a suction cup iPhone window mount I had to part of the goosneck to stabilize it. This contraption was mounted to the driver's side window (via the suction cups) and I put my camcorder just about at my left ear. I'll have to find a picture of the mount. I wish I could get it more stable -- I tried stiffening up the goosneck with some copper wire, but as you well know the suspension on the 911 is pretty stiff!

Beautiful Drive

That sunshine and Porsche looked great. You didn't look like you were going but maybe ten to 12 over. I'm surprised you got stopped. I like your video and you did a great job of keeping it steady on the second part. I almost felt like I was with you in the car. Send us some sunshine!!!

Thanks guys.

Hey, I really need to apologize for a couple idiotic stunts in the second film. I kind of let my frustration with the slow traffic combined with the whole filming get to me. My 20-year-old son was in the car and I felt the need to pull him aside afterwords and say "look, your Dad just did some really stupid moves... that was not cool." I learned a lesson that apparently I keep having to re-learn. Anyhow... enjoy

Beautiful day... That's the problem with Arizona mountain roads: there are so few of them that they are choked with traffic.

I hate slow traffic. 1970's must have been way better with just fewer humans around

Mark,

Since you are in AZ, I thought you might like this serious drive AKA "twelve miles of terror to Bahgdad" --- Baghdad, AZ. Nice side trip on the way up LV...

AZ Twisties for 911

Drive safe and stay cool!

Great Videos!

Yeah, too much traffic. I'd be driving the same as you did if I was in your shoes, if not faster But we do have to mind the other motorists, and the law.

Its difficult to drive a P-car slowly, specially the sterio is off. All I want to do is open it up and hear the engine!!!! I dont have a stereo in mine, bad idea.

Unfortunately we are not in Germany, no Autobahn for us

twistoffat doesnt have that problem!!! Thanks for the Walter Röhrl video!!! Its awesome!!!

Believe me I know how lucky we are. I drove my car a few years ago from Santa Fe to Chicago before brining it home. The Seller was kind enough to let me drive on his insurance as long as I promised to drive within the law which I respected and did. I´ve never seen so many Cops as on that trip.n Oklahoma City all the way to Bloomington Illinois was one continuous speedtrap. I still enjoyed the trip that said. I was the only one not sitting in my car at Sonics. Nothing liking sitting munching a burger while admiring your car from outside

Hey Mark, my wife and I just closed on buying a house in the woods in Prescott, AZ. I have the '85 911 up there already, and we're about ready to move there from NM for the next two months. We'll be there March and April before we head back to Wisconsin for another hot humid summer! My email is ranger@tcq.net if you want to hit up 89a to flagstaff or something. Dave.
