1974 Carrera power windows not working
Hello All,
I need some assistance with my 74 Carrera. My power windows are not working. They have been fine for the 8 years I have owned the car, but when I went to roll them up the other night, they were dead. I checked the fuse box, the fuse appeared good, but I replaced it anyway, still nothing. I am stumped.. Any help would be appreciated. Jeff |
P/W Issues.

Assuming no wiring mods, it almost has to be in the fuse CKT. Check for a loose wire at the bottom of the fuse holder, dirty/corroded fuse holder. Hope this helps. Good luck, Gerry Manuals |
I have the same car as you,....:)
The ceramic fuses are a red herring: you cannot tell anything by looking at them. Replace them with new ones and try again. Tighten the screws holding the wires, too. |
Thanks Guys.. I will take a relook tonight.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330024750.jpg

Also check the relay. You may have to swap the relay with another one that's used for something else - but, at least you will know.
+1 on switching the fuse besides just looking at it. I have blown a fuse before that looked perfectly normal. |
Jeff,
Is that GP White or another color? Mine is Chiffon. Alex |
Hey Alex, It is GP White.. :) Well I replaced the fuse, cleaned the contact and checked screws. Still no luck..
Any other suggustions ? |
Since you checked the fuse, get a DVM to make sure your are getting 12 volts at the fuse and at the switches.
or Swap the switches around to see if you can repeat the failure. I recently had an issue with my driver side switch that controls the passenger side window. It would work infrequently, but the passenger side worked just fine. Swapped the switches and Driver Side worked as it should. Luckily I had a spare switch and replaced the bad switch. Jim |
