Hi Chris,

Thanks! I am glad that you enjoyed the thread and I hope it was educational. I will try to keep up the work as best as possible but spring break is ending today so progress will be a little slower:( Naplesbound? Is that the Naples down the road from me?

Cheers,
Kristoph

Here is the new lanai (aka screened in porch). This makes our house such a pleasant place to live!! Now the back of the house is almost as nice as my garage;)

Day 23 cont: The first thing I did after the tank install was hook up the tank to the hard line with a new high pressure fuel injection hose. The only way to make sure there was no leak at the two connections was to pour in some gas and start the engine. After two months of sitting idle the Rat sprang to life and sounded beautiful. Here is a link to a video of the engine after installing the gas tank. I made sure to let the engine warm up before taking the video. It was so good to hear the sublime sound of the flat six again!!

I was also able to reinstall the front suspension on my own:). I was able to do this by pulling the steering rack throught the smugglers box and holding it in place with bungee cords. I then loosely put in the bolts for the front of the A arms and then the large bolts for the suspension cross member at the rear of the A arms.

Day 23 cont: Reconnected steering rack

This weekend I am planning on re-installing the master cylinder and brake lines, re-attaching the wheels to the A arms, reconnecting the tie rods, and cleaning away at the floor pan (hopefully outside of my garage to keep the mess down!!!:p)

Good progress! I would love an early Porsche project car, would turn it into a race car I think...

Thanks! Every little bit of progress gets me closer to driving the car on a daily basis again. Yesterday was especially good because I got the engine running again, which was fantastic motivation!

Thanks! I think it turned out ok but I am sure brake fluid will eat away the rattle can paint and maybe even the epoxy primer in short order. I will keep an eye on it and see how long the master cylinder stays nice and black. I will check out that thread. Why would I want to relocate the fuel pump, especially in FL. It has worked great since I have been here:cool:

Here are some pics on how I will try to replace the pans on the passenger side. The driver side is really solid so I don't want to get the entire kit. I think I found someone who is parting a 69 with replaced pans that will cut out the following. Will this work?

relocate the fuel pump to improve wt. balance, polar moment and prevent heat soak, etc.

dafischer 03-15-2012 07:25 PM

Kristoph,
As the owner of a largely original 69T (bad Resale Red over the original Burgundy Red), daily driver type, I applaud your efforts. Nice job, sir. It may be the lowest hp 911 ever produced, but it's still a fun car, and it's nice to see another one preserved.

I wouldn't worry about relocating the fuel pump, since a 1.7 lb (if it's a Hardi) fuel pump is hardly likely to improve the weight balance and polar moment of a basically stock 69T. I don't think that heat is an issue either, since the 2.0 110 hp engine compartment isn't exactly a super high temp place. I've never had a problem over the 10 NJ summers that I've driven the car in.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the advice. In terms of weight balance ( I have a Facet Pump) I don't think it will make a big difference. I am going to be using the car as a daily driver and not taking it to the track. In terms of heat soak I have had no problems. Maybe in the future I can relocate the driver seat of the middle of the car for optimum weight balance;)

Dave,

Thanks for the word of encouragement and the advice about the fuel pump!! It may be the one of lowest hp 911 produced but is still one of the coolest cars ever. I am pretty sure I will leave my fuel pump (Facet) in place. See pictures early on in the thread where I replaced the fuel lines in the back. NJ is not quite FL in the summer;)

Cheers,
Kristoph

My wife and I have been toying around with the idea of making a Ze Rat bumper sticker when the car is done. This is what we have so far

Day 25: I was able to make a ton of progress today. First up was getting the ball joints back into the A Arms and reattaching the tie rods to the steering rack

With the wheels back on:cool:

Little note to myself for the first drive after paint:D. Currently driving out onto the driveway and back into the garage will be accomplished with the E brake
