Day 79: Today was another epic day in the garage! Peter came over and we were able to fit the driver fender, front bumper, foglights, signal lights, and horn grills. The Rat finally has a face:)
Here are a few pics of installing the bumper and fender. The fender went on fine using the WD 40 trick again. The door is a little proud of the fender but the gap is nice and even. We had a devil of a time getting the rubber beading to line up near the windshield but got it eventually. It is really strange that we had no issues on the passenger side. The most difficult part of the bumper install was getting the seal to stay put. Even though the seal had adhesive on it gravity won the fight and we had to hold it in place as we snugged up the bumper. It took us almost an hour to get the smile on but it came out perfect so I guess patience paid off! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352466319.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352466360.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352466394.jpg Pictures of the fender gaps http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352466603.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352466629.jpg |
Day 79 cont: After Peter went I home I worked until about 11:00 pm and was able to install the fog lights, signal lights, bumper endcaps and connect the horns. Suprisingly most of the lights work and I only have a small electrical issue to root out. When I bought the car none of the signal lights worked so I am already "an old rabbit" (awesome German saying) at figuring out what the problem is and it won't be long until all of the signal lights work. The headlights work in both low and hi settings and the horns work as well!! I bet the neighbors loved me testing them at about 10:30pm.

Jealous... ;) I'm going to be working seriously on cleaning up my spare parts to take pictures of and sell this weekend so I can get moving forward on my car. The progress you've made on yours has me jonesin'.

Day 80: Today I made some more progress at the front of the car. I was able to finish the wheel wells, including seam sealer and undercoating and put on the headlight seals. I was also able to put in the trunk seals, windshield washer jets, and headlight drains. I was also able to address the rear liscense plate lights as well as the interior lights. To finish the day off I drilled out the holes for the hood crest and test fit it:)

I will need to investigate this in more detail but I think it is ground related. I am going to try and get new batteries this week to replace the current Interstates that do not hold a charge. I have talked with a Deka dealer and they have lawn and garden batteries for $44 dollars that should do the trick and I can get them with any type of terminal. I will post how that turns out. |
Day 80 cont:
Addressing the liscense plate lights. These had a horrible plastic cover that looked like it might have been made out of a 2 liter bottle. I went to Ace Hardware and they cut me plexiglass from scraps for free!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352694831.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352694867.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352694909.jpg Plugs on rear overriders installed http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352694984.jpg Washer jets installed http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352695033.jpg Trunk seal installed http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352695082.jpg Testing interior lights http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352695124.jpg |
Day 80 cont:
JB welding the hood crest and test fitting. I can't wait to install this when everything else is finished:) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352695298.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352695340.jpg |
Let us all know when that happens and we will all raise a glass!
Just outstanding. You have mad skills and an attention to detail. |
Love the light bulb above the hood crest ;)

How is the breather hose from the gas tank on a 69T supposed to be routed? I have seen some cars that have a charcoal canister and others that route into the air cleaner. Mine was previously routed out of the bottom of the car near the passenger door. Any advice and pictures would be greatly appreciated.

dunno for sure - was it a 49 state import of Calif.?
your best search term for this is 'emissions' BTW - also 'vapor' & look for Grady's posts (as usual) |
Glad I found this thread today! I had no idea I needed to do anything to the vents above the rear windshield

Kristoph,
You don't. If there is foam in there, it must be something that came along in later years. I'm pretty sure I've never seen any in older cars. In all my misadventures, I've only been able to force water through those vents once, when taking the old brown '76 through a super high pressure water jet auto car wash. It hit at just the right angle and found its way in and past the labrynth. Not sure what these guys are doing to get water staining on the headliner? Seems like a solution in search of a problem. You should post your question on '69 fuel vent/vapor routing as a new thread with a title likely to jog someone's memory. DG |
If your wife doesn't know what to get you for Xmas, ask her for two of these...
Pelican Parts - Product Information: 901-631-601-00-M100 They'll finish off your lid better IMO |
I posted a thread regarding deleting the vapor system as "1971 Vapor canister delete" that recieved reply's that should answer your question.
