My search-fu is weak.. heat/defrost cable 80sc?

Hi guys - I've spent half an hour searching thru PP for the cable that controls hot air distribution at the dash. Since I need $12 more for free shipping on my brake rebuild project, I figured this overdue item would fit the bill, but I can't find it anywhere!

I think it has a red housing, but not sure... goes from the bottom (red knobbed) lever in the dash panel, controls the outlet of the hot air (def/heat).

Any help?

Hmmm, my parts manual shows those cables as part of the entire control assembly that is NLA.

You can buy generic cables like that from restoration houses ( I bought them for a '56 pickup truck) or take it over to a bicycle shop and have them make one? Post a wanted to buy ad?

Kyle,

I went through this recently and came to the conclusion that those cables are NLA as mentioned above. I found a used control panel with the cables FS here on the classifieds fro $50. Make sure you grease the cables well, that's usually what causes them to break in the first place.

FWIW, I've been told that cables from a lawn mower can be rigged to work.

You can get some hi-tech replacements from a bike shop. I believe that you will want control cable vs brake cable.

Thanks guys - control cable for push-pull capability; makes sense, though I would have bought brake cable the first time.

Fresh air blower doesn't work, hot air blower doesn't work, heat/def control doesn't work. Bout on par, I'd say.

Might be a good time to backdate the heat.

It's always a good time to backdate the heat!
The OP needs to be able to send it where he needs it!....

Yup, a BD is on my list, along with reverse-park wipers, AC fix-or-remove, oil line replacement, valve adjustment, speaker replacement, suspension refresh, lower/corner-balance, R-comps, track days, AX....

For now, baby steps - let's make it safe to drive again.

Might be wrong, but IIRC even derailleur control cables are "pull only" as they operate in tension against spring-loaded components.

Solid lawn mower cables, though, might work . . .
