So now, I say goodbye to Ruby....

After 10 years of fun, lots of time spent under her, lots of money spent on her, Ruby moves on this Thursday. I've done a lot to this car-it started with some paint and interior rehab, then after getting the track bug, a complete brake system upgrade, then various stages of suspension, 6 sets of wheels, 3 different tails, then a motor rebuild after a money shift, then another "1/2 rebuild" as I took her to 3.4L and twin-plugged her. Lots of little stuff along the way to fill in the gaps. I've proven anyone can work on these cars if they take the time to understand them.

But, she's had enough love and money showered on her, from me, in the last 10 years, and I don't want to go thru another round of smog in Calif. I've also got the 993 now (as it started out bone stock-lots of room for "improvement" ;) ), and I just bought a Catalina 34 sailboat the beginning of the year, which is something my wife and I can enjoy together. So, it is time.

At any rate, here are some of my favorite pics of her through the years. The first couple are really what she looks like today, and there are some in her middle years with me, as well as how she started. As a paint to sample that looks a lot like Ruby Red from 1964, she's somewhat unique, along with the bright trim. I've gotten tons of compliments from many of you over the years, and I've certainly gained a lot of my knowledge in the early days here on PP.

Thanks for sharing the photos, Ed.

I'm sure you will miss her. I enjoyed following your build(s).

One of the nicest targas I've ever seen....very sweet... Tim

Wow. Never thought i would see this day. Thank you for all the knowledge you have shared with this car. You have been an inspriation. Your advice has proven invaluable many many times. Good luck with the 993. Funny how chapters come and go... makes you feel kind of empty yet excited at the same time.

I think Ken got one HELLUVA deal! Sorry to see Ruby go, but know she'll be well cared for.

I don't like targas. But I like this one. You are gonna miss that one! Question...is that k&n filter a fit or just the filter..I want to get one. Mike

I purchased my targa after I saw what you were able to do with yours. Congrats for the many years of enjoyment you had.
Beautiful car.

I hope she goes to a good home. She will be missed.

Ed, I remember the first time I saw Ruby, we were headed out to MSR. She looked and sounded great. She has evolved over the years, she shared a stall with your 928 back then.

The hand off of caretakers is a bittersweet moment. Reflect on all the times she put a grin on your face and think of all the grins to come for the new caretaker.

Thanks guys, I know I'll miss her, but then again, I've had 10 great years, and built a car that is somewhat special, at least to me. She started out as a $10k 911 with a tired interior and faded paint on the right front fender-so she had nowhere to go but up.

Speaking of sound, this was a dyno session about a year ago. The good sound kicks in about 1:15:

Perfect stance. Great looking car!

I'm pleased that one of my pictures will serve as a reminder of your good times with Ruby.
Thanks for allowing me to photograph such a good looking car.
