Porsche 930 engine oil thermostat problem!
Hi!
I have a small problem with my 930 Turbo from -81. The oil temprature is not hot enough. The dial is showing that the heat of the oil is just above or just on the white field of the dial when I drive "normally". I says in the instruction book that the temprature is to be in the middle of the dial in the black area above the white area... Which isn´t the case for me. I have taken apart and tested the external oil thermostat but that one seems OK, I have ordered a new thermostat replecement just in case. Can someone around here tell me whats wrong? If the problem still remains it must be the internal oil thermostat, is that one hard to chenge? I´m a little bit suprised that a thermostat is stuck "wide open", usually I thougt that an incorrect thermostat was stuck in "closed" position... BR Jorgen |

There are 2 loops, the inner loop is controlled by the engine mounted t-stat and an outer loop controlled by the wheel well mounted t-stat. oil temp as read at the guage, has 2 plateaus, there is an initial run up then plateau 1 controlled by the engine mounted t-stat, then another run up(if ambients allow) to plateau2 controlled by the wheel well mounted t-stat, then another run up(again if ambients allow) if ambients are low either of the circuits can fail to reach the 80ºC temp, causing the run ups to terminate early So the first thing is not to worry if ambients have been low, then if there is still a concern check oil temps by an alternate means an easy check for the operation of the wheel well t-stat is to place you hand on the oil lines under the right side sill, if they are both hot the wheel well t-stat is open
