Who's put their 3.6 swap through CA Smog?
I'm contemplating upgrading my 77 911s CA BAR legal 3.2 conversion to a 3.6. My biggest concern is going back to the CA smog referee station to get the car certified with the 3.6. I've pretty much ruled out the 993 engines with their OBD 2 systems due to their complexity. I really don't want to try to wire in a check engine light into my dash. For those of you who live in Kalifornia and have done a 3.6 in a 76 or later car: please share your thoughts and experiences specifically on what it took to get your 3.6 conversion legally past CA smog.

I'm with TT, a summary from anyone who has done this would greatly benefit all the California pelican members thinking of a 3.6 upgrade. Anyone????

Agreed...a summary of how to do it right and meet California smog rules would be extremely helpful.

The engine you want is the 95 993 engine as it is OBD1 not the OBD2 compliant. No engine interlock tied into the DME - 272 hp hyd lifters- runs quieter, no valve adjustments and with a chip can hit 300 hp. jim

"I really don't want to try to wire in a check engine light into my dash."
Then stay with the 911 3.2. "with a chip can hit 300 hp" Wait, maybe even 325, right?
