Horn Pad Removal

Is this a horn pad that just pulls off or does it rotate? I have been working at it both ways but can't get it to budge. However, I have been afraid of applying too much force without knowing the correct technique.

For the style you show in the pic, it pulls straight off. It is a pain in the butt! The 4 pins that capture it are inline with the spokes and slightly inboard. Once you get one corner to pop, the added leveage will help you get the other 3 to let go...

They all pull off straight, unless you have an airbag.

Pull harder.

Pull man style.

No they don't. I'm not sure if yours is a rotate or pull but absolutely the early butterfly style and hockey puck style rotate about 45degrees counter clockwise to remove. Get confirmation on your mid year steering wheel. I have had early style that were very very difficult to rotate. Like two people and grunt difficult!

In fact if it is a rotate don't use the ignition lock to hold the wheel...two people required!

I've heard that was a bad idea.

I use a long metal/wood pole and stick it under the wheel spoke and then under the dash with one end and under my armpit on the other. Pretty sure that's what Mitch Leland recommend when removing the 27mm nut on the inside.

If torqued to spec, you can break the nut loose with a 2' break bar and holding the steering wheel in place. +1 never use the iginition lock when doing this service.

Pulled straight off. Broke the nut with an impact wrench. Thanks for the help.
