Bumper Deco Trim

Early car. Wide 'S' deco trim on front bumper.

1) How does the rubber attach to the metal deco trim? Adhesive or are there fasteners?

2) Could the metal deco trim be removed and replaced without removing the bumper?

Thanks. -- Curt

OK, just answered Q2 myself using my new 71 parts catalog. It's bolted on. How about the rubber? -- Curt

I believe it slides in, and then is capped on either side with the end pieces. If you need to replace it Pelican sells the whole kit. If you need just some of the pieces, call Doc n' Cy's in Indiana -- they have the best prices on the trim stuff that I've seen. 800-950-0356

That makes sense because the parts catalog shows a profile of the rubber with a little recess on the back side. Thanks. -- Curt

I had the body deco trim off on my car to remove the rocker pieces, and the rubber slides in a channel in that area, and is held in by two end caps at either end at the wheels well.

Thats not the bumper, but maybe they are similarly installed.

I looked around for the rubber inserts for about a month and gave up, nobody seemed to stock it. I ended up getting a new front and rear deco trim set from PAP and got a sweet deal. I am waiting to restore a steel S front bumper before I install all the new trim and seals. You willl likely find that the bolts attaching the trim are in horrendous shape, but as the other stated, the rubber has a T-slot in it that slides onto the mail counter-part on the metal trim. The end pieces bolt into the tim and bumper holding everything in place.

Chris, I found a couple of places that sell the narrow rubber only, but not the wide S rubber?? So, I guess I'll be pulling the bumper and installing an entirely new piece. Thanks, you saved me some time. -- Curt
