Rgruppe question; RS flares
What is the difference between genuine '73 RS flares and the later SC/carrera flares? Does anyone sell copies of the real ones? What do all of the Rgruppe people use? TIA.

Geeze, I dunno...I'm R Gruppe member #15, but no flares on my car. None on Cris's '69, either. Maybe the determining factor isn't the flares? Frankly, at Cambria last year, I saw both RS and SC flares...and a lot of other stuff as well. Most of it was pretty cool, IMHO

The shape of the RS and SC flare is the same, but the lip is larger on the RS. Sorta like the turbo lips that hang down. And it looks much cooler.
You can buy them from GT Racing. Go here http://www.gt-racing.com/catalog/ and click on the RS link for a picture.

Very cool, but I wonder if anyone makes them in steel?

Peter at Rennspeed Motorsports recently had a steel pair (I think) that he was selling pretty reasonably (like $450).

There is a difference in the profile of the original RS, and early 911 Carrera Flares. The early RS and '74 Carrera's lip is more rounded where as the '75 and later Carrera & 911 Carrera 3.0/SC cars use a lip that matches the sqaured off edge on the front fenders of '69 and later 911's. The other difference is that the early flares were welded onto the narrow 1/4 panels where as the later type were an entire 1/4 panel including the flare (the factory never made a full 1/4 panel for Carrera RS's, they welded on the flares even at the factory). You can buy Fiberglass rear flares/or full 1/4 panels from GT Racing, or MA Shaw has the proper early RS Flares.
I believe you can still purchase NOS factory 911 RS contour flares from the Dealer, if available the part numbers are: 91150360703 for the right side and 91150360803 for the left side. I'm not sure on price but I think hey're about $350 each? Good luck, and Happy motoring...Tony |

There was a guy from Florida at a Watkins Genn at a DE last summer. Had the real ones in steel, there is a difference. The real RS flares are very cool, kind of keep that narrow bodied look while letting you run wider tires.
Those RS' have all the right curves in all the right places.... BB |

why does wayne have them listed as 74-89 ? when they are replicas for a early car.
