G50 Shift Coupler - help needed
I have been trying to install the Jwest shift couple bushing on my 89 Cab. It looks like it should be a very simple install but I seem to have run into a snag. I have done a lot of searching but no specific answer. I know I need to remove the rivets that hold the bushing at the top and the bottom and I have ground off both sides of the rivet and was able to pull off the rubber bushing. What I am left with is a metal sleeve that I cannot seem to remove. On the PET it seems to be a "tubular rivet" Any suggestions on how to remove this portion. I am also looking for suggestions on removing the lower rivet as there is not much space to work. I used a Dremel on the top one.

Are you working with the coupler removed from the car? If you are not you should. If you are and still have problems you should call jwest for additional instructions.

I just unbolted the coupler, from what I have seen in other posts it does not seem necessary to remove it form the car?

I did get some suggestions that it would be easier form underneath but I was able to remove the bolt through the inside and get the new bushing installed. Getting it back together took a lot of patients and some skinned knocks but I managed to get it all back together and it makes a world of difference. Very tight and no slop in the shifter.

I just did this ! I used Dremmel with a cut off wheel to remove the top rivet, I had to use a hacksaw on the bottom. I then used a grinding cone on the Dremmel to grind the rest of the revit off. I did not use the supplied bolts, I went with 10mm bolts and found that they fit perfectly through the revit hole. I did this about a month ago and still cannot believe how much better my car shifts!
