Online dealer parts recommendation

I'm converting a 912 to 911 and have been told the 911 motor mount/gussets can be ordered from the dealer. Any have good experience with an online dealer parts supply or know of a good source? I didn't see anything on pelican. Thanks. Todd

I buy my factory parts from Pelican. You'll need the factory part number and then search for that.

Thank you. Assuming the parts disk pelican sells would have the body part numbers? Will look into this. Appreciate the response.

If you go to the Porsche.com web site and look around you can find the PET (Porsche parts manual) and it has every part you need for your car. It is NOT a interactive easy to use system, but you will figure it out. It lists all the porsche part numbers for every single part.

Our dealer has almost nothing for air cooled cars. They can order it of course byt Pelican is almost always going to be cheaper.

I've found Sonnen Porsche Parts to generally be much cheaper than Pelican, although there are a few limited items where Pelican's pricing is better (rear bumper guard, windshield seal so far).

I'd be surprised if they have a forum with a built in support system for the community of 911 owners. That isn't free and if the part is 5 bucks more, I know where I'm spending.
In absence of a part number, you can always call the order desk. They have part numbers for year/make model and I've found them helpful always. (especially when the part number you have has been superseded by a new number)

Not sure why the leap to their defense; when I'm looking at a central locking module from them for ~$400 vs. Pelican's ~$660, the choice is clear. We're not talking a few bucks here and there; here's a few specific examples of what I've ordered and had delivered:

1) Complete Housing & Black Trim Lens; $575.00 here, $383.67 there.
2) Motronic Air Box; NLA here, $183.02 there.

My seatbelt buzzer and windshield washer relays were significantly cheaper there as well. Not to say they are always the least expensive; as I mentioned, the rear bumper guard and heater flapper boxes are less expensive here.

Welcome, Todd

Forgive me if you already know this, but you'll want to go here:

Porsche Classic Genuine Parts Catalogue - Classic Genuine Parts & Literature - Porsche Classic - Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG

to download the appropriate official Porsche parts catalog(s) you need. These are often referred to in the Tech forum as PET. Not only has specific part numbers (which you can then use to search here on Pelican Parts to find what you need), but also immensely valuable parts diagrams to help you understand how parts/assemblies come apart/go back together.

mmahon, I'm not speaking for Tony or Glen but I agree w/their support for Wayne and PP. Further -- my $.02 -- I think using PP resources to drive business to a competitor falls somewhere between bad form and classless.

I am on the fence on this.

However, I have NEVER, EVER seen genuine Porsche parts peddled at a 30% discount.

mmahon identified genuine Porsche which is ALWAYS serious money and compared it to an unknown competitor - with unknown parts pedigree.

I use *********.com, which is awesome for non Mfgr/OEM domestic parts for Chevy's and Dodges. Often 1/3 the price of Pep Boys, Auto Zone and Advance Auto. They offer Bosch and OEM German parts for Porsche. Same price plus or minus a few dollars vs Pelican. There ain't no give-away when you are talking the real thing.

Did you visit the site? They're a dealer, so OEM.

The original question asked was who knows of a "good source" for/or "online dealer parts supply." I've got no stake in who wins, but I will provide an honest answer to the asked question. If Pelican would like to state or provide a policy indicating you can only mention or link to them and their products, I'll change my posts accordingly (and most likely take my thoughts elsewhere).

Suncoast Porsche (another dealer, OEM parts, located in Florida) also provides steep discounts on pricing. Amazon has been terrific as well at providing OEM (Bosch) parts; go look at their pricing on distributor caps and the idle control valve.

Guys, I've spent thousands (tens, perhaps) here at Pelican, between a Cooper S, 996 911, and now the 3.2 911. Pelican was my first place to look when trying to find parts for the GF's C55 AMG. My dad will need components for his 996 Turbo; I'll be checking here to compare. Again, I've got no stake in anyone's outcome; I'm just trying to make sure I can retire while also enjoying my vehicle.

Sunset Porsche in Oregon. Best prices around. I'll phone my orders in.

I wouldn't sweat it. A lot of people like to pretend this forum is some sort of altruistic act on the part of PP. It is a great forum but PP, no doubt, gets A LOT of business they wouldn't get otherwise from running this forum. Nothing wrong with that. It is a good reason to buy parts here instead of elsewhere if there is no significant price difference. That said, let's not pretend this forum is something it isn't. No reason to deride people for pointing out the fact that there are other places on the net to buy Porsche parts that are sometimes notably cheaper.

Certainly these forums bring in quite a bit of money for pelican. Wayne does a lot to keep it up, not just as an enthusiast, but also as good business. How many times do we point someone in the direction of one of his books? I like the service from pelican, and it is worth a couple of bucks on an order. If I can get a better deal somewhere else I will go there, but I also have a pretty good feeling that the staff here would understand.

I have no bone to pick, either.

I have used Stoddard Porsche since back when they were in Mentor Ohio. Their parts business has spun off from the dealership since Penske was awarded/bought the rights to sell Porsche eliminating Stoddard, Sunnyside and Fred Baker Porsche.

Stoddard sells real Porsche parts, OEM and aftermarket.

I like them as they usually have parts if I need them "today" as they are within driving range.

Price wise, meh.... on par to Pelican without any effort put towards a comparison. I pay Ohio sales tax, though if I drive up north.

If Sonnen beats true Porsche prices by a long shot, I am cool with that. I am just too lazy to compare.

Have a great weekend.
