Guess-timates on Greyhound Shipping for 2 Seats?
I've never shipped 911 seats before, but wondering if someone can share their experience(s) on shipping seats via Greyhound. I have 2 8-ways going from NC to upstate NY. Anyone care to throw out a number?
I am planning to ship them in a single wardrobe box, so any advice on packing them is welcomed too. Thanks in advance.

From Seattle to Baltimore... It took about a week... It should be a lot less time for that short trip.

you can get a quote here: Greyhound Package Express - Quote
but also here: Busfreighter.com :: Save on Shipping :: Welcome I like using busfreighter better, most times cheaper, and you print the shipping label at home vs. at the depot. If memory serves, one seat drops down into the box very snuggly. On nice seats, I wrap them with an old sheet to prevent scuffing. The other seat just goes on top, upside down. I think you need to buy a second shorty wardrobe box to cap it.

Greyhound isn't the deal it used to be. I shipped a pair of 16x8 Fuchs and with better insurance, tracking and price, USPS was the winner. GH has no tracking.......was 20% higher and was double estimated time.
Not that time was an issue for me....

GH does indeed have tracking. I shipped a seat from upstate New York to Ga in January 2015 and tracked it all the way! Tracking is done on their website by your shipping Bill number. Sometimes the auto tracking is iffy if the sending location didn't enter the Bill#into the system, but if you call customer service, they can tell you exactly where your stuff currently is. One seat was $90 and took three days. Fees are based on package size, not weight, however they have max box sizes and max allowed weight.

+1. Just had 137lbs of M5 seats shipped to me in CO from MA via UPS three-day, cost a bit over $200. Much preferable to Greyhound, IMHO.

I shipped an entire sunroof clip from a '59 Bug late last year for $108, but after I mentioned that rates seemed more expensive lately the local Greyhound guy told me their rates had gone up quite a bit.

All I'm saying is check around. I didn't get the best service from GH of late. I will check them on big items but they no longer are a bargain.

Just shipped two sport seats from Knoxville to upstate NY. Wrapped both in bubble wrap, put them both in a wardrobe box from Home Depot and they made it in ONE day...$110.00

A new player in shipping large parts is Fastenal. I just had a pile of parts shipped from OKC to Charlotte for $100 and the crate was basically 4 foot cubed and weighed almost 200 pounds. They will ship about anything and their prices are amazing. And, you pay on delivery, so drop off the parts packaged up and the buyer pays for the shipping when he picks up.
I've shipped fenders and doors via Greyhound, and it was also a good experience, however their prices seem to be going up. |
