Filter to FD line fix>?
I managed to change the filter today but cracked the line just after the barbed fitting on top of the filter. Can I reinstall the fuel line back over the barbed fitting, or is there something special Porsche does? I got it 75% back on and it is weeping, will the last barb make the difference from it leaking?
The injectors seem to be flowing much better with the new filter.... thanks Adam

If your 80 is similar to mine, the threaded fitting is part of the line. I'd recommend replacing the line, but someone might have a robust fix. Keep in mind, the fuel is under a bit of pressure.
Can you post a pic?

Its the plastic CIS hose similar to the FD to injector hose, from the top of the filter to the back of the motor. If i could see where it goes I would change it, but cant see where it connects to the back of the fd assembly. I saw in the archives someone talked about using boiling water to get the hose expanded and then push it over the barbed fitting. others talk about a special porsche tool. Anyone have any input .

![]() ![]() I may be able to help depending on the size of the tube & fittings. Can you email me a photo? I do not have a SC available at the moment to check this myself. I have been making up replacement Porsche Fuel & Oil hoses for many years, and just started doing the black Polyamid tubes which take unique fittings. I have lots of hose fittings, but not many tube fittings at this point. I have never yet been able to assemble these fitting by hand, even with hot water. I have purchased a few of the special tools needed and have had success using them, but each size is unique, so that means a multitude of tools. I can supply most of the tube needed fo a SC, and have 3x5mm, 6x8mm and 8x10mm Poly tube in stock. I am willing to try if you can show me what you need. I have done it with a heat gun to heat the tube. Be very careful with the barbed fitting removing the old tube. I have seen someone slit it with a razor blade and nicking the fitting after that it leaked.

![]() ![]() The only SC here at the moment is a 82 with the upgraded Metal lines and a different fuel line from the filter to the motor. If memory serves me, the earlier plastic Filter line goes directly to the Fuel Dist and is not removable or servicable. However, with the proper tool you may be able to repair this in the car. After you remove the old piece by melting it with a soldering iron so you don't damage the barbed fitting, you must cut it clean, deburr the end and use somthing like this........... ![]() to hold the line while you insert the fitting. Perhaps warming it slightly with a heat gun will help as per turbo nut recommendation. I am just learning the tricks about this myself. Just my 2 cents. I ended up pulling the FD in frustration, and removed the line. I will take it to my buddy who has a hydrualic shop and see if he can make up a new one for me. Ill proabbly clean up the FD while its out.

![]() ![]() Just for future reference, what are the tube diameters & lengths? As stated above, I have a few of the Poly tubes in stock. Your fittings & tubes are Metric and important to replace w same. Len ![]() |
