Help, thoughts, advice..car stumbles/ misses turning left
Tracked the car this weekend and about half way threw the session it started stumbling while turning left and accelerating. On this track I was usually in 2nd gear making these left hand turns. Down the straights I could run it out to red line with no issue. It also had no issues while turning right. The stumble or miss felt/sounded to me more like a fuel issue but I was hoping someone here might be more diffintive about the possible cause.

The obvious question is, how much fuel did you have in the tank?
Could be a pick up issue.

I had this happen after lowering the car. The left rear suspension was hitting the bump stop and caused the flapper door to close.

Thank goodness we dont drive NASCAR then ehh....
sorry couldnt help myself the only thing I can think of is I had this old bug and it would shut off sometimes over bumps in the road...after a bunch of searching I found the rear seat springs were shorting across the battery when I had a passenger in the back and hit a bump.... something might be loose and moving.... But also check for pinched fuel line from suspension travel

I had an intermittent stumble/miss issue that plagued the car for ages.
Finally I found it was the injector wiring. It was the engine harness way in the back of the engine bay, near the connector. It was not the connector itself but close - the wiring was squashed in a clamp, possibly by the factory. Reach back there with the engine idling and move wiring around and see if you can cause the miss/stumble.

Coud it be that the rubber mounts for the CIS have failed (or one of them).
I recently noticed that one of my CIS Airbox mounts had broken. With the slightest push on the air box would change how the engine ran. it was basically causing the throttle position sensor to engauge while idling. Just a thought. |

I wanted to revisit this topic as I have driven the car more on the street and wanted to share that experience to see what others might say.
I left a stop light making a left hand turn and the car starting stumbling. It seems the farther the wheel is turned to the left the more it struggles. This is NOT from a hard launch but normal street driving. However once the steering wheel is returned to neutral and the car is going straight it accelerates without issue.. Thoughts? Have you tried moving the electrical/ignition wiring around while parked to see if you can replicate the problem?

Here's a crazy thought. The steering rack and the fuel pump occupy a similar space under the front cross member. Could a hose be getting pinched or squashed as the rack is turned to the left....
A fuel pressure gauge is very useful for trouble shooting, but it needs to be plumbed in such a way that you can see the gauge when the problem occurs. This is not an easy task in our rear engined cars.

I wanted to bring this thread to a close as I know when people research it is helpful to have a conclusion to the issue.
It turned out to be the TPS sensor/switch. The engine was running lean due to faulty switch so it could not make power on the top end. I have no idea what the turning left was about...maybe just anecdotal and or coincidental. Later it did began to stumble in a straight line too. You could roll the power on to higher revs but stomp on it and it would stumble. Anyway she is back on the road and track... regards, Mike
