First wave....

Finally got the car on the road after 8 months of work. I was just leaving the tire store this Saturday and another 911 car (a sweet 87 to 89 Turbo) going the other direction was flashing the headlights at me. I thought something was wrong with my car at first, then I realized he was flashing at the car and me!!!!! Well, needless to say I was feeling pretty good about myself and all the hard work that I put into my car, so I waved back and smiled. Later on when I got home I told my wife about the Porsche encounter on Hwy 101 and she just didn't seem as excited about it as I did, but that's alright, I got my first wave!!! I still have many projects planned for my car (75 911s) and I'm sure I'll never forget that Saturday the 29th of July, 2001 I officially became a Porsche nut. Just thought I'd share that with everyone.

Nope, it's the original bumper, I didn't like the original look with thoses big rubber bumper things. I took to work and had one of the guys weld it with aluminum. Just used the grinder after that and it came out smooth, didn't even use any bondo on it. It did take a long time to get it smooth between the grinder and sandpaper block. I happen to like what you've done there a lot. I too don't like the rubber...i think the rubber is like the Chrome of the 70s, it gives the year away. Consider rubber to be bleached bangs, and a michael jackson glove, while the chrome is plaid bell bottoms and a handlebar mustache...no offense Obin, I know you just can't give up those bellbottoms and porkchops!

Jack, thanks for all the help on the spoiler (and the diagram to hook it up). After seeing your car with multiple spoilers on your web page, I picked the one I liked the most and the rest is history. Plus, it really does help keep engine temp down I think in the up position. To answer the other question about the holes on the right hand door, I took the door to work and had them weld it with a little metal plate behind the skin and fill the hole with weld. Then I used the grinder and the sand block to get it smooth.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether or not to put the other mirror on or just leave it like it is? I'm kinda in the middle of the road on this one.

Install the other mirror! In my opinion, the car looks more 'balanced' with it on. Additionally, it always helps me watch out for curbs.

I think that the single rear-view mirror enhances the car's vintage narrow-body look. It's cool. Then again, changing lanes is safer with the second mirror. A lot of guys who were born with one (present company included) get another put on for safety's sake.
