Is a Superlift a good one for 911's?

Anyone ever use this lift? Came across a used one and thought I should check here before buying.

Purchase A Made In The USA Car Lift From SuperLifts.com - Car Lifts, Auto Lifts, Motorcycle Lifts and other Garage Accessories

I'll be using it for the rebuild of my 1973.5T.

Should be fine as long as you don't plan on dropping the transmission. The rear support on that style of lift tends to get in the way.

Good feedback Packet82. I already have the engine out, but still need to drop the transmission. Maybe I should do that before I lift it?

You'll have more room if you back the car on the lift, but the lift mechanism can get in the way and make it a bit of a pain. Still quite a bit better than using jack stands though.

Also looks identical to my BendPak. You can take out the engine/trans as a unit. It just takes a little planning. Maybe you'll need to back over it or rotate the lift 180 if you're using the lift for other cars as well. Keep in mind weight bias - might want to put some weight up front. Also, my stock height 911 needs about 2" tall ramps to clear the lift. Atleast the BendPak anyway.

North of the border, it was cheaper then Bendpack with twice the warranty time.

North American Component; see post 5 of Hemi Roadrunner Scissor Lift for details.

Did a small modification to drop the engine/transmission.

Looks very similar to the used one I'm looking at. What is a good price for one only a year old?

I paid $850 for a used Snap on lift that retailed for around $4K. it was 5 years old and saw little use as it was used in a speed shop to display their products.

I used one of these for countless motor/trans drops. But IMO, its easiest to drop the motor/trans as one unit and split outside of the car. the one time i helped a friend who left the trans in when he pulled the motor, it was a several hour cursing job trying to get the darn thing to re-align... never had a problem my way. IMO, these lifts are wonderful for a rear engine car, and i've never had any problem with the lift getting in the way (i moved back to NY and put a post lift in my new shop, sold the sicisor lift to a friend in waco, and its been used like crazy by him)

Thanks for all the feedback.

I don't have room for a 2 or 4 post system in this garage, so I think this may be the best solution. Just talked to the guys at SuperLifts.com (they are now owned and built by Gemini in Texas). They are selling new for $1,895 plus $250 shipping.

Should be able to get the used one for under $1,000.

Not sure those hydraulic units are designed to work laying flat like that! Stuff like air in the lines might make for an ugly result...just saying...

I agree. Most of the ones I've seen are on a small two wheel cart designed to also be used as a "puller" when connected to the hitch on the front of the lift.

Rick,

All the scissor lifts that I've seen these days were made in Asia. HF sells this lift for less than $1,000 (use 20% discount coupon) and delivered to your door steps. I have mine for almost 10 years now and very happy with it. I have the same problem with ceiling clearance and opted to go this way. Spent less than what I paid for a pair of 9" fuch wheels.

i got lucky and found one on cl for $500. for $50 more the guy delivered it on a flatbed to my garage. it's branded Ben-Will (never heard of them but it's much thicker steel than the HF model i looked at and many others online) and rated for 6Klbs. came with 3 different sets of risers for the arms as well.

Honestly, if you're spending $2k+ on it, just get the MaxJax. It's removable when you're done and will be easier to work on.

If you're going the HF route, get the one that they sell for $1400 and use the 20% off coupon. The $900 one they sell looks like they've stripped off a bit too much trying to cut the cost.

It's slowly changing. The Lift Superstore Difference use to ship to the US but stop last year. I think that their might be an association between them and SuperLifts.com same price and colors.

A friend went to the factory and they are assemble there. I would think that the structure is probably made in china but all the other components for the scissor lift are North American.

Why our lifts are better...

Ask yourself this, why do most other lift companies only offer a 1 year limited warranty on their equipment? The answer is simple. Their units are 100% offshore and the distributer does not receive compensation from the manufacture in the event of a failure. Being that we use North American components on most of our products we give you a two (2) year warranty on parts, five (5) years on the structure and a lifetime warranty on the cylinder! That’s right, LIFETIME! Our pumps and motors are North American made and CSA/UL approved. Air-craft grade, pre-stretched cables are standard on all our products as well as North American cylinders. Can the "other guys" offer you this?

Don't be wowed by the price you see on-line. The lifts you find may look the same, but are they really? If the company selling you the lift is only offering a 1 year limited warranty are the products they are selling as good as they say they are?
