Difference in HP on 3.2 L engine

I read on a Web-Page about the differences between 3.2 L engines by model year and European vs US and Japan:

1) '84 - '89 European 231 HP compression 10.3:1
2) '84 - '86 (my car) US and Japan 207 HP compression 9.5:1
3) '87 - '89 US and Japan 214 HP compression 9.5:1

What does it take to get to the 214 HP of the later models and would an increase in compression alone get the 231 HP or does it also mean to bypass the cat?

In 1987 the program memory in the brain was changed or to a more complex PROM. Everything on the motor is the same so the answer is how the brain uses the information.

Upgrade the DME to 89 chip, that's it!

But the 89 chip is a 28pin chip while the prior ones where 24pins. So you can't just plug the 89 chip into the older DMEs. But the older DMEs can be upgraded to use the 89 chip. I have done many of these upgrades. I even take 944 DMEs and upgrade them to run the 89 Carreras.

The upgrade is not very difficult to do, takes me about 20 minutes. But you must know what to do and howto do it. Also good solder skills are necessary.

The simplest approach is to purchase a 89 DME and your done!

Yes, no issues at all doing that.

The later '86's have the 28 pin socket. Not sure what VIN the change started with, but mine already had the 28 pin socket.

So a late OEM chip will get you from 207 to 231 HP???

Is the '89 chip really a worthwhile upgrade for '44s? Any ideal as to rear gains?

Other than the better chip is there really any difference in the '89 and earlier DMEs?

The cheapest and simplest upgrade for power is a simple move to the 89 chip and DME. And it's factory approved! You will develop more HP with the 89 DME.

No, the CR bump is worth ~10%. But it should give you the later US HP figure. Would prolly need the Euro box/chip to make the Euro figure.

I understand changing the DME/Chip on a '84 - '86 to the '87 - '89 DME/Chip will gain the additional 7 HP (207 HP to 214 HP). The European Engines are suppose to have a higher compression ratio.
