Source for 1974 fuel pump

I think that my fuel pump is failing. The car lunges and bucks and the fuel pump makes a loud buzzing sound that is not normal. Does anyone have any words of wisdom as to the best source for a fuel pump?? This is a 1974 911 CIS 2.7. Pelican has a piersburg but says it need minor modification automation has one that is rebuilt...?

I have had good luck calling the guys at Pelican and simply asking them what they recommend. Why not try that?

I like that word, "pluggage". I'm going to add it to my dictionary.

The fuel filter is fairly new, and the pump is making a racket that it had not done previously. I have the filter on order as I write this but due to the noise frome the pump I have to assume that it is the cause , as the noise and the bucking car came at the same time. I was on a 2 hr drive and only at the end did it deteriorate and the pump started to buzz much louder and differently than normal!

Got the number?

Call Pelican to see what the modification involves. It may just be a simple fitting or hose adapter. New pump is the way to go. You can also post the Bosch number and a pic to see if someone has a NOS or an old one in the garage.

There are two filters on the car; the external one in the engine compartment and the in-tank one at the bottom. Look at the internal hex plug on the bottom of the tank and you'll be staring at the filter base,...

These are a nylon screen unit and always ignored. When they get plugged with dirt and/or rust, the pump cannot draw any fuel and gets noisy as it starves.

Drain the tank and change that filter before you condemn the pump.

Almost a certainty that your tank is rusty. Pull the fuel sending unit and look inside.

The fuel pump in my '75 is acting up and both of the fuel filters are fine.

Has anyone actually used one of the universal Pierburg pumps that Pelican sells for the '74-'76 cars? I called them today and spoke with two different folks, and neither could tell me what the "minor modifications" were for installation.

I noticed that a Genuine Porsche piece is available for $600 or so, but turns out they are Chinese Bosch units (and very expensive to boot!).

Replaced the fuel pump in my '75 last summer. I had thought about the universal replacement from our host but ended up sourcing an original style through Vertex in Florida.

New:
Porsche New Fuel Pump For Cis Injection: Fuel Fuel Injection &amp Fuel Pumps, Injection Relat
Rebuilt:
Porsche Rebuilt Fuel Pump For Cis Injection: Fuel Fuel Injection &amp Fuel Pumps, Injection Relat

They're pricier than the universal versions but I had no interest in making changes to my car's fuel plumbing and electrical.

One caveat though. Make sure that Vertex is sending you the correct pump as they accidentally sent me the universal one at first even though they'd charged me for the factory one. They were very good about fixing the error but it cost me about 3 weeks of enjoyment of the car while the pumps were being shipped back and forth.

I can confirm that the factory replacement pump comes in a Porsche box marked Made In China. I was taken aback initially but since it installed easily and resurrected the car, I was happy. Will it last 35 years like the original one did? Doubtful, but my fingers are crossed.
