Question Cant get headlamp rings off - help.

I own an 89 911SE. I've just purchased some Hi-white H4 bulbs and having removed the screw from the outer painted headlamp ring - I can't remove the ring itself to get at the headlamp assembly. What am I doing wrong?

I don't want to pressure the painted rings only to break them. Having not done this basic task before - is there a trade secret or quick tip on easy removal?

Thanks for your help.

Neil

Gently apply pressure to rock side to side(its rotating aroun the central axis), this will help break the stiction. There is a tiny lip on the back of the top so gently pull from the bottom while gently rocking from side to side.

Did I say gently, the ring i just paper thin metal.

Neil: The last time I took mine off, I got an allen wrench and hooked the small end into the hole where the little black plastic covers are. I pulled gently with a set of pliers holding on to the allen wrench and the ring pulled free of the body. It did not take much force at all and did not mark up anything on the headlight ring.

PS: These cars really are addictive aren't they! Can't drive it enough and only about 10 more weeks until I'll need to lay it up for the winter.
