Porsche Crest Porsche 962 Street Car?!

Last night on the SPEED channel, Porsche was featured in the "Victory by Design"show. They ran through some history of the Porsche racing pedigree(s) and how engines/frame designs were carried over into production versions. One featured car I never even knew about was this!!!

What an amazing car. According to the host, only 6 street versions of the 962 were ever made. Now I know were the Pagani Zonda design inception came from.

Yes, after seeing the show a while ago I bought the DVD. That car has to be one of the most beautifull I have ever seen.

The is a company in Germany that converts the 962 race cars to street cars. I think it's Dauer. Here is a write up. http://www.qv500.com/dauer962p1.php

The rules of that era dictated that the racecar be based on a production car, but the rules defining a production car were very liberal. So Porsche worked with Dauer to create a production car from a 962. Certainly the opposite of the spirit of the rules, but it worked!

The top picture is a Dauer but the bottom picture is a Shuppan, both based off the 962.

Yep.

Personally, I think the Dauer is a better-executed package.
FWIW though, the Shuppan variant is the one featured in the VBD video.

They had a nice article about the 962 "street" version in Excellence a few years ago.

It mentioned that they used tailights from a VW Vanagon.
