DIY Seat Recover - Experiences?
I've searched this excellent resource-of-a-forum, and can find only one post from a Pelicanite who has recovered their own seats. I'm getting high price estimates from trim shops in the L.I. NY area (upwards of $500+ for the labor) so a DIY seat recover using a kit from our host or one or two other sources is an attractive option.
Anyone care to share their DIY Seat Recover experiences? Any issues with fit, any tips on filling out wrinkles due to old compressed foam? Would you do it again, or did you throw in the towel and have a pro finish the install? The sport seats in my '87 Cab are still plump and cushy and though the original vinyl skins fit tight, they're worn all the way through in spots, the vinyl is hard, and they've faded from burgundy to an ugly purple. I'm trying to decide if I should bite the bullet and write a big check to a pro trimmer, or do this myself and put that $500 into my future-top-end-rebuild fund... Thanks in advance, GK |

I replaced the leather with a vinyl kit I picked up for about $325 on my front seats this fall. (ebay) Foam was in good shape, so it was fairly straightforward. Not the first bucket seats I have done so I had a little experience. You can pm me for more info if you like.

I did mine back in December 2010. Came out great Found them on That place for $ 250. Had to ask the seller to send me a set that didn't have a seam on the front seat bolster. Besides that they came out great .
