Guess what I've been doing...

What do you get when you put three single airmen in the desert for 6 months?

You get 3 airmen with too much money in their wallet at one time, that's what!

You all know what I spent my loot on.... interior, transmission...
But i never told you what my roommates bought.
My one roommate, Jared, bought a Powerdyne supercharger for his '90 5.0 Mustang. This created excitement for our other roomate, Gordo, who imediately decided that he too needed a supercharger for his '99 Honda Civic Si.

I tried to tell him that there were better things for him to spend his money on, other than a supercharger, but he would hear nothing of it... two weeks later ...the superchargers arrived... at a combined cost of about $5500.

Jared had a pretty good idea of what he was doing so I didn't help him much. Gordo, on the other hand.... well, first let me give you a little background on Gordo... this is the guy who got upset when he saw that Jareds Mustang had 2 "Headers" and his car only had one... he demanded to know why he only has ONE header.
Ok, so anyway, he looks at this kit and almost starts to cry.... pieces everywhere... you know... a big job.
It's like he thought it was going to be a snap together job or something.
We were joking with him that he should have bought a Tornado Air System instead.

So, I instantly knew that I'd be the one doing the majority of the install.
For three days now we pretty much ripped apart the entire injection system. Wiring harnesses, sensors, fuel lines, coolant lines, vacuum lines....everywhere. What a mess... I never thought there could be so many lines in such a small area.

Anyway, last night I got it fired up... no problems what so ever.... runs like a raped ape. The rev limiter doesn't cut you off until 8K.
I had a hard time getting the front tires to get traction at launch.
I hate these little imports but also have to admit that this little car will really scoot.
Luckily I've convinced him to keep it totally stock on the outside with the exception of some nicer wheels.
And I've got him to buy a set of Suspension Techniques F/R sway bars so at least he can get that sloppy eco car to handle with some dignity.

... but in a straight line .... it is fast.

Other than that... I'm still waiting on my transmission to come back from Nevada.... should only be another week or so. I'm really starting to get the itch!

Having a garage is going to be the greatest joy i have ever experienced... we are all going out, buying stuff to spiff up the looks of the bays. The house is 24 years old, and the garage definately shows it's age... but with a bit of TLC we can make it look pretty good I think.

I'm buying a bunch of 911 posters to go on my side along with my Pelican Porsche flag (jaunte) and some other nick knacks.

Should look great when all is said and done... and i'll post pics.
Hope everyone is having a great week!

RJ, That sucks!
I am at 168 days since September. Our Wing King has said that anyone who deployed in support of OEF will not depoy again this summer. But since the OPS tempo for EOD has skyrocketed since the attacks... the amount of USSS TDYs that the are doing have gone though the roof. We have a 21 mand shop here... there are no more than 7 or 8 of us in at any time because the rest of us are on these VIP missions.
What a pain in the arse!

I'll tell you what, I've contemplated, on more than one occation, the idea of getting a supercharger for my 911. But it just would not be practical. It needs paint more than it needs more "go".
Plus I may be getting married within the next year or so... don't need any silly expenses...
The leak has been sealed with aircraft sealant... unfortunately there's no way of knowing if it worked until I start the engine again.

We'll just have to wait and see.

leland, i spent about 5 years playing with my 93' civic si and know some good tricks to actually get some power out and to keep the wheels firmly planted on the ground. we also run an acura integra in scca nationals (same basic chassis) and do pretty well. if your roomate wants the best for his bucks (other than the supercharger) i'll be glad to help you out. my n/a sohc vtec 1.6 was putting 140 at the wheels without touching the bottom end, his being the twin cam has much more potential now that you added some torque (with the supercharger). shot me an email if your interested and i'll be glad to offer some non-ricer advice
later

Lee,
The fact that your motor has been "resting" while the tranny is out, may be good for allowing the sealing "goop" to fully cure.
Be sure to let us know if it worked.

Leland,

Glad you made it back from the desert. Things are quiet for us out here on JFK. Just got back from a month at PSAB doing the LNO thing for the carriers, and things were quiet then as well. I guess it's just as well (for them) that the ground guys don't need our ordnance. We hope to keep our stint at 6 months and get back in late summer, but as you know the action will determine that.

My current tour ends shortly thereafter and I have orders to USEUCOM in Stuttgart. I'm really looking forward to that.

If you want some info on supercharging your SC, talk to Jeff Curtis. He's one of the moderators on the Rennlist 911 site. He has plenty experience, good and bad. I'm sure he'd be happy to chat with you on the pros and cons.

Good luck.
