3.2 Carrera clutch slave Boot question

Hi,

1989 911 3.2 Targa...

Hopefully simple question. When I removed my engine last fall, I don't remember the boot from my clutch slave cylinder being removed from the body of the cylinder. When I looked at it recently, I noticed it was separated. How is the rubber boot held in? I don't want to go poking around as clutch worked perfectly with no leaks prior to engine removal. My speculation is the boot was getting stretched by the pin due to debris on pin, and eventually just pulled out of cylinder body? Is it as simple as slide the boot back on the pin and reinsert in body?

I'm confident the clutch pedal was not depressed since removal.

Thanks!
