Tach/Bright indicator wires crisscrossed?

When driving my 84 at night, the blue brights indicator light is on all the time, and the left half of my tachometer is not lit. When I put the brights on, the bright indicator goes off and the left side of the tach lights up. They seem to be crisscrossed.

I am guessing that the tachometer has been out of the car and there are a couple of wires back there that are just plugged into the wrong place?

Just wanted to see if this was plausible before I pulled the steering wheel/tach out.

Yes, the crossing of the wires is the likely cause. BTW, you do not have to remove the steering wheel, though it makes it easier. I have replaced bulbs in the tach without having to remove the wheel, but not on an 84. You just need to pull the tach out far enough, and angle it, to swap out the bulbs connectors/wires for the lights in question.

On my '84 with the extended hub steering wheel, the tach still won't quite come all the way out with the wheel in place. But if I pull the clock, then the speedo, and then push the tach out as far as it will easily go I can fairly easily get to the bulbs.
