Carrera Chain Tensioners Oil Fed

Reading through Wayne's book and several threads regarding the priming of the Carrera Chain tensioner I have this question.

Once these are primed per Wayne's book then installed, the oil in the tensioner drips out. Does this defeat the point of pre-priming these before installation.

Once the oil drips out don't they just fill back up with air and? Help on this simple question is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

When I did mine, I never had to prime them. But, that is only 1 datapoint.

I never understood the point in priming myself. Pressure is pressure and whether oil or air, they'll push. Air is obviously thinner and will leak through leaving oil pressure at some point. If you get them apart, you'll see how stout all this mechanism is anyway and the amount of movement is miniscule. They don't just move back and forth with ease. I basically didn't touch my tensioners during my rebuild (they went in a plastic bag on disassembly and came back out for re-assy). Never a problem, they looked fine. I guess if they were "new", you could attempt to put oil in to start using a clamp or something. Unless you primed and held oil in all the hard and rubber feed lines, you've wasted your time. Still lots of air in the system.

I think any air will simply leak through since the o-rings aren't designed to hold air pressure. All the air will push out naturally leaving oil only. Even that is better to leak through a little so all the air will gradually work its way out. Will still be good pressure.
