Should be fun.
Need to check with Mike and find a way to get my '73 2.4L Turbo down there for the action.

FYI, the hotel block closes out in the next few days. Get your reservation and registration completed if you have not already. There are still a few rooms left.

I did 370 miles of road scouting this morning. I think there will be some new ones to drive and some seriously fun roads.

A few teasers;

I wasn't. Volvo v70 turbo wagon. The DD/parts hauler/do-it-all car. Much quieter than the targa and the maps and notebook don't blow all over the place when piled on the front seat.

Jay, Sorry you can not make it. Let me know next time you are in Austin. Bring the blue bomber and we will scout some different roads. I have a few on my list that are relatively close by that I have not tried out yet.

Hi Jamie, I have a room reserved in Boerne and planning to make the trip out - still have to register....

Looking forward to meeting everyone and making the trip. (There are even some great roads from where I am in Lakeway to Boerne before the rally run!)

Done! It looks like shirts already closed out on the 5th, but if there are extras, would love to purchase one.

I guess that's one way to introduce myself - the shirtless guy eating the BBQ...

Drive over and hang out. We will be there Friday night. There might be passenger seats available for Saturday if you ask around.

Michael, Missed you this year.

Here is a teaser. I am in the process of writing up a weekend recap. I will organize pictures tonight and put some more up.

I must say that this weekend was a lot of fun. Great people, great drives, great fun and most importantly great people. I admit I did not take too many pictures during the drive as my camera was "temporarily misplaced". Here is a recap with some of the ones off my camera.

Friday started with that hectic rush to get out of the office in time to meet the caravan. While a large group was headed down from Austin there were few that could get away after lunch. In the end there were 5 of us ready to hit the road. We met at our designated location on the South side of town and the first issue started.

The early 930 would not re-start. Off comes the intercooler air box, etc. We have good spark but no fuel. We were now down to 4 cars as one waited for a tow. Was this an omen for the weekend? Let's hope not.

Finally, we were on the road. The Sun was intense. Sunscreen and a hat were in order. Yes, it looks goofy but it does stay on at speed. Yes, I wear earplugs when driving with the top out.

We finally hit the open road. Some were so open they just seem to go on forever.

Eventually, we make it to the fun roads. There was not much more than big bugs to worry about.

After a relatively short drive (90 miles or so) we reached Boerne, TX.

Boerne is a small town that is quickly becoming a bedroom community for San Antonio. Located about 20 miles West of the outer limits it can be considered a gateway to some fantastic driving roads. We would hit those tomorrow. First, there would need to be some socializing among friends both new and old.

Next, thing you know, the parking lot is full of early 911s, 912s, and a handful of 914 and 356 cars. This is going to be a great event.

The next morning we all split into smaller groups to enjoy the drive. Saturday morning was a little foggy. This kept everyone in check knowing that the sun and dry roads were soon to be found, but not in that order. Cornering under the clouds was a morning favorite.

While things looked peaceful in stills you should see them at speed. In fact, I did shoot some video.

One of the only straight section on the morning route occured at the Nueces River crossing. Yes, there is a concrete road bed that is 8 ft above water level. Considering this crossing is 1/4mile wide and there is a 5 ft flood marker you have to wonder how much water comes through this valley. Yes, TX is famous for doing things big, including flash floods.

Our small driving group was having a blast at speed on these seemingly empty roads. We did almost 90 miles of the "three sisters" without a single car in front to slow us down. Yes, we are blessed.

Eventually, we returned to the hotel and since the "track was cold" it was time to cool off with a local beverage of choice. Cold Shiner on a Hot day. good times.

dinner was great and Sunday morning came early. Time to drive back through town and head home.

Leaving Boerne.

John with a smile in the Polo Red 66

The weekend was too short. Next year, we just might have to make it longer.

I want to thank everyone that has come out to support our event. Without your participation, this would not happen and there would be no motivation to continue. We had 33 cars and almost 50 people registered for the event. It was fantastic. See you next time.

A few random shots I liked. Photocredit. John (Sundevil64)

Lined up and ready to drive!

Misty S curves make eyes Misty.

Soft window targas make great cars to shoot pictures from. Besides, what else are you going to do when you are stuck behind an early morning farm truck?

Switch backs for the driver...

Valley views for the passenger.

Can you read the sign? I think you will agree if you come to visit.

Bryan,

If you are driving down in the Fall let me know. I could probably organize a trip down some of my favorite local roads.

yes, get that car on the road. Cosmetics can come later. Mechanicals need to be done now. Yes, you are getting very close.
