Introduction and soon to be Porsche owner

I've been lurking while searching for my dream Porsche and finally I can say hello.

I wired funds to the seller I am preparing to fly out to Colorado to take delivery of a special Porsche and will have it transported home to Reno, Nevada.

According to the owner this is a rare model of 911 that has a factory option for 959 body made at the manufacturing site in Zuffenhausen. It is like a turbo (930) body on a narrow body 911.

The owner took took european delivery and had a nice tour before shipping it home in 1987. It currently has 37,950 miles on it.

Here are some pictures to hold you until I can get the car home and take better pictures.

I know it's not a real 959 like Wayne's, but it is offically manufactured by Porsche so I don't have to be embarrased by answering a question: "is that a kit car?" See the certificate.

That is a nice looking car. I have never heard of that option before. I hope you did your research on it. That cert. looks like its had a few things digitally changed, but I could be wrong.

ETA: At least I didn't believe it.

Wow.

Really?

I mean...

Really???

I wonder how many of those came out of the factory. Far fewer than actual 959s, I'll wager.

Any interior or engine bay shots?

What are you going to do with her? Garage queen? Or daily drive...?

EDIT: Hang on. Is it April Fools Day in the US yet?

Very interesting and indeed special! We want more history!
See VIN decoding below - note the discrepancy marked in red. I guess there has to be a code for a car bought & driven in ROW config - and later taken to the final destination. What were the major compliancing differences between ROW and US/Can 87s?

WPOZZZ 95(type)Z(ROW)H(1987) S(Stuttgart)9(vehicle type)0(always Z in ROW) 0065(Serial number)

Why would the factory not replace the standard flag mirrors? If this isn't an april fool's joke, why also would it have 996 turbo wheels?

Nice looking car.

Something strange on the COA. For the MODEL YEAR/TYPE & COMPLETION PRODUCTION DATE it look like someone change the year from 1997 to 1987...

I'll go with April Fool Day

YA think? Wasn't even a good attempt at photshop! How about the Exterior Paint/Color Code font being totally different than the others! Turbo twist wheels?

I agree: April Fools Day.

The Model Year “1987” has obviously been molested.

The “Canepa Design 959 body” jumps off the page.

The VIN WPOZZZ95ZHS900065 indicates a 959 body/chassis.
The “H” in the 10th digit indicates 1987 model year.
The “S” in the 11th digit indicates manufactured in Stuttguart.
The “0” in the “code for body and engine”. The “0” occurs in a few coupe models including the “Turbo “B” RoW/959”.
The “65” indicates there were at least 64 others built.

Engine number 61V02361 indicates a 1996 993 Turbo M64/60. Interesting for a April 1987 build date.
Transmission number 2007548 doesn’t follow any Porsche system I can find.

"Joe, I would get your own copy of the CoA from PCNA. This one appears to be tampered with."

This presents a problem for anyone who relies on a seller provided CoA.
Even if this an attempt at a humorous April Fool scam, this is a forged Porsche document.
What if this had been an actual sale? This makes a 1st-hand to the buyer PCNA provided CoA invaluable - prior to a sale.

Before we close this thread about the Colorado car

VWVortex.com - 959: Real or replica?

Quote:
If it has a Colorado plate "Phoenix" then it's a genuine 959 body on a 964(?) Carrera 4S chassis. I met the owner at Bonneville and asked him about it, as it was the first one that I'd seen for 10 years. He said that he was able to buy a spare body from an original owner in Germany who had lost interest in the car (apparently this was an option at the time of original purchase) and rebodied a Carrera 4S with it. He also said that he has had the engine tuned up to the equivalent power level to a genuine 959...
...For clarification: The owner did not say that it was a 964, just that it was a Carrera 4S chassis, that was my unsure input, hence the (?). I heard the car running at idle but cannot state if it was turbocharged or not. The owner made no attempt to misrepresent the car to me, his motivation was get as close as he could to a US street-legal 959 while avoiding the issues and costs of a real one.

I am in Colorado and the seller AND car is no where to be found. I have left six voice mails and called him about twenty times but no answer.

I am now really worried as I sent him a wire transfer. It's the weekend so I couldn't call my bank to see if they recall the wire.

I have a really bad feeling that $94,000 of my money is gone.

I may need to enlist the aid of a private investigator or bounty hunter.

Best,
Grady

Just take it to England. I'm sure you can get some hack judge to certify that because the air in the tires came from the same compressor that inflated the tires on the Paris-Dakar winning 959, that it is, indeed, a Paris-Dakar winning 959. Should be worth about $2 Million at auction.
