'86 Cab Wind Deflector

With the warm weather we are having I'm driving my '86 Cab open most of the time. Up to 70 MPH and the windows up the wind turbulence is not too bad, but on the Interstate at 80 MPH it's almost unbearable. I have searched for a wind deflector (to mount right behind the front seats), but can only find them for the power top (mine has a mechanical top). Does anyone know if they exist and where I can buy one? Would the one for the power top fit my mechanical top?

The place in the UK is Classic Additions.

Not 100% positive but I believe the same wind deflector works in the power cabrio as well as the manual cabrio. The only difference being that the manual requires two holes to be drilled in the rear speaker covers, where the installation for the power top requires no drilling.

Thanks a lot, I will try Mr. Stitch in California. No modifications to the car.

I talked to Mr. Stitch and it sounds like the wind deflector he offers is OK, but the seats have to be aligned with each other to use the deflectors. My wife and I are quite different in height, so this wouldn't work for us. I found this deflector offered in Germany Porsche | WEYER. I will order it and have it shipped to my parents. I pick it up when I go over there in the next couple of month. Too bad this is not offered her in the US.

Interesting, did you find something different between the Weyer and the Classic Additions?

I am considering this item, and I see that Classic Additions ships to the US.

FYI: In a Targa doing 128 without the top is no different that doing 60! Been there done that.

Classic Additions is £180 ($288) while Weyer is €180 ($234). The Euro is 1.3 to the Dollar while the Pound is 1.6, so the Weyer wind deflector would be cheaper and they both look the same. The deflectors from Mr. Stitch are $280 and are just fabric without a frame.
It looks like they mount somehow to the seatbelt attachment point. I will call Weyer and ask them.

I called Weyer in Germany, they will ship to the US and they provided me the attached installation manual. The bracket to hold the deflector is mounted under the seatbelt bracket. I can't tell what it takes to take the deflector off when you don't need it. I may have to call them back.

OK, I talked to Weyer again. The screen can be detached by taking the nuts off the bottom of the screen. The two brackets under the seatbelt attachments will stay in the car. I guess I would use wing nuts on the screen to be able to take it on and off. The screen does not fit in the trunk, so I guess I would leave it in my garage during my normal daily driving (not much Highway) and only install it if we go on a trip. I have to think about it for a couple of days to make up my mind. It would definitely make the two hour drive to Hershey for the swap meet more comfortable (I just love to drive open).

Did they give you a shipped price?
I was quoted around £200 ($317.018 based on today's exchange) shipped to CA by Quick Search for the screen that fits the manual top.

No, I have not asked Weyer for a shipping cost, but the £20 (about $32 US) sounds about right as far as shipping. Are you going for it?

Seems to me that the Classic Additions version has a more elegant mounting option for manual tops. For manual tops, you drill a small hole in each speaker cover and insert a grommet that is the receiver for the spring loaded ends.

See this:

I like how this is mounted and the screen fits in the trunk. I guess this is now my first option.

I have been considering this, but I have a power top. My understanding, after reading posts and querying the Classic Additions web page, is that the only difference is that the manual tops require the holes to be drilled, whereas the power top version uses existing holes.

Regardless, I am interested in your experiences, if you decide to proceed.

I am getting confused, but that is easy. I looked at the thread of the '83 SC and I liked the mounting with the the flexible pins. However, the later users received the new modified design and they had to make some special brackets and the back part of the deflector was not easy to mount. I just went on the Web-Page of Classic Additions and looked at the instructions of the deflectors:

To me the one for the mechanical top (lower picture) and the electrical top (top picture) look the same and to my surprise the mount now the same as the ones from Weyer in Germany. The instructions for the deflector for the manual top are even written in German. I guess I have to call them tomorrow to find out.

Not sure yet as I am still installing a new carper set from Appbiz, then I'll have to put on a new top, so the wind deflector won't be a priority for at least a couple of months.
I am curious as to what the price difference will be between Classic Additions and Weyer.

Just talked to Adrian at Classic Additions in the UK. The instructions on their Web-Page are old and do not reflect the current product. Here is an updated instruction on how to mount the deflector and it is the one with the extend-able pins, so taking it out when not needed is very easy. Adrian quoted me £200 for the deflector including shipping to the US.
