Introduction: From Targa Monster to Targa Classic!

I just bought my first Porsche today...a 1986 Targa. White on red!!

I wanted to start off by saying THANKS to all the members here for their wealth of knowledge and unique insight into these cars. It was invaluable during my shopping process and I think I went into this purchase fairly confident in what to look for and what to look out for. My many hours of lurking was like an education and I learned much about the car and the community. So again..thank you.

My sexy wife is also a HUGE car enthusiast, and together we have a sort of "bucket list" of cars to own. This time around it came down to a Porsche Turbo or an Acura NSX. But then something happened. We decided we wanted to get back to a more "basic" and "pure" driving experience. You see, prior to this our cool car was a 640HP Supra Turbo. Indeed we had become Horsepower Whores. Which was why we were steering towards 911 Turbos (996/997) initially. Then for the "pure" we switched to looking at NSXs. Fantastic car! Then by accident, we drove a mid 80s 911 and we were pretty hooked. The sound, the smell, the driving experience. We were both smiling, and that's how we knew we must have a 911 of this vintage.

The Supra was an absolute beast and did everything wonderfully. Especially embarrassing a friend's 911 Gemballa. We really regretted selling it (to a collector in Greece!) but despite both having good jobs (me: engineer, her: RN) we're not wealthy enough to own as many cars as we'd like at one time! Our ideal house would be one with about 10 garage doors.

At any rate, we're excited for our "new" targa and the fun it will be to own. We have our plane tickets bought and we're ready for our road trip back with our classic targa. I'm also excited to keep learning about these cars and am glad to be a part of the forum.

For now, I leave you with a picture of our Monster Targa. And when we return, I'll be sure to update the thread with pics of our Classic Targa.

Welcome to Pelican! I always liked those Supras, but never got one. Can't wait to see the new ride. As the fellow owner of a Japanese sports car also, you will quickly learn that the raw experience of the 911 is much more fun and rewarding. Enjoy it.
