I drive my car less than 2000 miles a year but I've been having it tuned up every 2 years regardless. Should I continue to do this or is it unnecessary? My valves after 2 years typically don't sound bad but I can tell they are quieter after the tune up.
Also, I found the distributor cover and rotor has not been replaced each tune up which brings up my other questions; how frequently do you do tune ups and do you change your distributor cover and rotor? Other than valve adjustment and plugs, what else do you do during your tuneups? 79SC |

I'm like you, under 2,000 per year. Finally dawned on me that valves, timing, etc...those "tuning" things, pretty much need attention by miles or hours, not the calendar, unless there is an unforseen event, of course. One of my "tune" tests? If the car will easily reach redline in 4th, the "tune" can't be all that far off.

Like you said, the valves aren't going to go out of adjustment from sitting.
Sitting is one of the worst things a car can do. Certainly change the oil right regularly. Acid is one of the byproducts of combustion. This acid ends up in your oil eating bearings. If the car is stored for long periods condesation builds up in the gas tank (and rust) so changing the fuel filter would be a good idea as well. -Chris |
