Help w/ Another Part ID
OK, this is an electrical line w/ connector coming into the engine bay from under the cover plate on the driver's side. Obviously not connected to anything...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1333750395.jpg

Looks like the WUR connector for the 3.0 engine in your car.
I'm guessing your car may use a throttle lever inside for cold starts and doesn't have a WUR? |
It's the black connector on my WUR.

No, here's a shot of my WUR with all connectors. This is something else?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1333758217.jpg

The cold start valve has that same connector - and the wires going to it are yellow.
|
Cold start valve and the safety switch for the fuel pump are back there on the CIS.
Similar one for the AAR. I was thinking WUR due to location on drivers side where he indicated it was found. |
Wires for the safety switch should be brown/black.

If it is the CSV, then it would have power only while the starter motor is energized. |
You're right Rex, I didn't notice the colors of the wires in the pictures. Makes me wonder how well the car starts.
|
Under the plate on the drivers side would be the OxSensor wiring on 80 to 83

Car starts perfectly and has for twenty-six years. Now that I think about it, that wiring could be coming from the O2 sensor...
|
Wouldn't know anything about that wire on my '78 :)
|
My guess would have been to the WUR as well as the connection looks the same. Interesting, I have the same issue with my 2.7 with a strange connector that appears to be in the same location (the 3 port item on the bottom left).
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1332723870.jpg After a lot of emails and investigation: a) many (if not all) have the SAME connector that is not connected on their 2.7 b) no one can tell me what purpose it serves. Perhaps yours is the 3.0 version of the same connector. Is it possible this connection is meant to connect to some sort of tool that checks timing or engine performance or something? Maybe a primitive version of the modern auto scanner connection? |
The wire was most likely added to power a frequency valve for a feedback system in order to pass emisions regs when it was imported. I assume someone spayed it & went back to original. Probably whats left over from a Johnson Box.

Needspace - that 3 prong plug looks like the old external voltage regulator plug. Do you now have an internal voltage regulator on your alternator?
|
The single wire in my photo comes from the O2 sensor and is spliced into this connector to nowhere. The entire "harness" comes from the front of the car...

Hmm, interesting. My car is a 1976 and my engine, while not original is also a 1976. Honestly, I am not sure if I have an internal regulator or not (my car isn't running yet), I assume its an internal regulator as I don't have any wiring left on the engine that isn't connected. I thought the external regulator connections were flat, not circular. Here's a better picture. Interesting though as it is the best guess I have heard, it makes sense and it is where it should be. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1333850026.jpg |
