				Jumpy Gas Gauge

On my drive in to work today I noticed that my gas gauge was jumping a bit. The needle had come down to about half a tank and then it started twitching a few degrees. It finally settled down and then seemed fine. I have also noticed that it sometimes gets stuck at 1/4 tank left (found out the hard way). Assuming there is an issue with my sending unit? I have read some posts and it sounds like I should take the sending unit apart and give it a good scrubbing, but wanted to know if there was anything else I should think about as well.

Check the connectors to the sending unit and the gauge first. When you remove the sender , um, this is a rather delicate unit ; "scrubbing" will destroy the fine wires! I use carby cleaner and some tissue paper to very gently wipe the guide wires. Unless it's rusty in there , that should fix the issue.
