Oil Return lines on an 1980 SC
Hi,
Bought a ROW 1980 911 and it had aftermarket steel braided cables that connect it to the external oil cooler in the front wheel well. Have taken it to a hose place and the cannot work out the fitting that comes form both the engine and oil reservoir. Can anyone help with what sizes they are and where I can source the fittings. thanks in advance Geoff ![]() |

![]() ![]() The fittings for your 911SC Oil system have M30x1.5 threads. The pipe you show goes to the left hose in this photo............ ![]() I can re-hose the ones shown or you can buy new from our host. Not expensive either way. Typical cost to re-hose the one hose assy that connects to your engine pipe is about $35. The female straight fitting itself that attaches to your pipe and also to the tank is $25. ![]() ![]() Geoff- I sounds like you may have a "Terbatrol" oil cooler setup that used braided -12AN hoses up front & back. If you post a photo of what you have we can likely identify and help you with this. What is the problem, have the hoses started leaking? Len ![]() |

Hi Len,
I am trying to find a picture of them. I currently have the hoses with a hydraulic hose firm. The reason I needed them changed was an oil leak which when I investigated found the hose couplings connecting to the thermostat to be severely erroded. However this is related to a previous post I made called Check out the Oil Lines. In that post I did include photos (which I can no longer find - always the way ![]() In the short term I will use a good quality clamp to hold new rubber hoses. This is based on the recommendation of a porsche trained mechanic. In the long term I will have to get the proper fittings. thanks for the great help I am so glad a site like this exists where there is invaluable help |

![]() ![]() OK, this is the same issue discussed earlier. For a temporary measure, throw away that aftermarket oil cooler crap & run a Factory hose from engine to tank w PN 911 107 742 10. Its for your model but without a front cooler, and only $70 from our host. It will eliminate all your leaking hose issues. If I can find a photo of this I will Post it. You can then drive & enjoy your Porsche while you decide what you want to do for a front cooler if anything at all. Len ![]() |
