Car won't start. What's wrong with it?

Car won't start
Hi, I'm trying to figure out what is wrong with my car. I have 1986 911. It's been running well, then a couple days ago it just won't start. I figure, if it's something simple, perhaps I can do it my self before I take it to my mechanic. My mechanic, Jose, said check the fuse, checked it all are fine. Battery is new. There is fuel. It cranks but won't start. Article I read had same problem, they sprayed starter fluid and it started. My problem is i don't know where to spray it. Hahaha. I thought I try this first and if it doesn't work I'm going to have to bring it to him. I don't to ask Jose where to spray, his just going to laugh at me. I thought I ask you guys first, laugh is must, it's okay, you don't know me anyway. In any rate, can someone tell me please. Thx

You have to systematically test each system to determine where the problem is. Fuel, Air, Spark. Start with fuel (well...spark first, then fuel). The Bentley manual contains a step-by-step procedure to do this.

have you tried switching the DME relay yet this is common problem with our cars

If you don't have a spare one you should

To answer your question you would spray starter fluid in the air intake where the filter is

Reg

Pics of your car would help

DME relay is probably the culprit.

I don't know much about the engines, And I wouldn't do anything that I don't know anything about. So, DME relay is something I need to learn. For now I'll spray the starter fluid, see how that goes. then research bout DME. If that still doesn't work, off it goes to Jose. Thanks.
Oh, when I spray the starter fluid and it does start , then what? I would still have the mechanic check what the problem is, Correct?

If it start with the spray, the fuel supply is at fault... So the DME relay (about $30) would be the first culprip to investigate.

But pics of the car would really help in pinpointing the problems

Post your location and a local Pelican would probably offer his help.

The DME relay is under your drivers seat next to the DME

If I were you I would order a replacement from Pelican and try that simple fix first if thats not the problem no big deal cause you need the spare anyway

Forget about spraying starter fluid...I think its pointless

You said in your first post that you are getting fuel

If I get the replacement part, I wouldn't know what to do with it anyway. I might as well just have Jose fix it.
I would post a picture, but it's raining at the moment, and the little car is out side. I'll just have the car tow his shop. Fortunately i have towing coverage. Thx everyone.

The relay just plugs into a socket under drivers seat u do not have to remove the seat to plug it in

If this is the problem very simple fix

Like I said this is a must have part in every 3.2 owners glove box

here's a link to the part (no pictures unfortunately). Common breakdown part for our cars. The second most easiest thing you could do to your Carrera, next to filling her with gas.
